North Chapter

Referee Association:North Chapter Referee Association (NCRefs) is our local referee chapter. Monthly meetings are held the second Wednesday of each month at MarinerHigh School in Everett, with the exception of June & July. All referees are required to register online at

Good information is posted on the web site – especially monthly meeting updates, as well as being a great resource for referee information. You can earn your continuing education hours needed to re-certify by attending the monthly meetings. NCRefs also hands out paychecks for all select games at these meetings.

SYSC posts all our select and U11 older rec games on NCRefs.org.

It is important that referees take advantage of every educational opportunity that is available. Not only do you accumulate your continuing education hours but you gain further knowledge of the game and have a chance to ask questions but also network and socialize with your fellow referees.

WashingtonState

Referee Committee:WashingtonState Referee Committee (WASRC or SRC) is our states governing referee association. Good information is always posted on their web site. You can register with this web site by going to the following web link:

Risk Management:It is mandatory that all referees are current in their Risk Management. This is a requirement of Washington Youth Soccer Association for all those referees working youth games.

To apply go to this web link:

Once you have completed your online application, please send an email to Assignor Suzanne Lambalot to let her know you have done this.

Tournaments:All referees are encouraged to work summer tournaments. This keeps you busy working to improve game thru game experience. Snohomish hosts 3 tournaments – Snohomish United Invitational U11-U14 May 2-4, U15-U18 May 9-11, Snohomish Bigfoot U11-U18 August 14-17.

Other clubs host tournaments as well. Go to this web link for a complete listing:

If you are interested in participating as a referee in a tournament, contact the Referee Assignor. Introduce yourself, let them know you are a new referee and what grade referee you are (Grade 9, Grade 8 etc.). Also let them know where you are from, who is your primary Referee Assignor and what your exact availability is (days & times). You need to tell them what your referee experience is as well – what level of games, what position and how many. It also a good idea to let the Referee Assignor know if you have any conflicts – are you, a sibling or parent coaching in the tournament, what is their team name, age group and gender.

Many tournaments offer referee mentoring. It is a good idea to ask for mentoring wherever you go.Mentoring is an excellent way to gain feedback to improve your game. And a great way to ask questions of an experienced referee. Don’t be afraid to ask for help – mentors are here to help you!

Referee Uniforms

& Equipment:All referees are required by USSF to wear the appropriate referee uniform on games. No hats, pants jackets may be worn. If it’s cold - layer it up! But make sure whatever you wear under your referee uniform is not visible. If it’s sunny – don’t forget your sunscreen! We live in the great Northwest……….be prepared for all kinds of weather.

It’s a good idea to carry your referee equipment in some type of duffle bag or back pack designated just for your referee stuff.

Make sure ALL your referee equipment is labeled with your name or initials.

Fall Season:The fall season is where we need the most help and you could be working games every

weekend provided your schedule permits.

All select & U11 and older rec games are posted on NCRefs.org. You may use the web site to request games. Otherwise the Referee Assignor will assign you to games. All Micro U7, rec U8 – U18 games are assigned by hand. Schedules are communicated via email.

Prior to the beginning of the season, you will receive an email from the Referee Assignors letting you know when schedules are coming out. You will also be asked to let the assignors know what your availability is (days & times).

Snohomish

Referees:We will be hosting monthly meetings complete with door prized! Rec paychecks will be handed out. Schedules will be reviewed. We’ll have a guest instructor and round table discussions. Meeting notices will be sent via email and posted under the Referee area on the following web link:

Other Places

to Work Games:Once you have received your USSF referee badge, you can work games anywhere. Not just in Snohomish. It’s always a good idea to move around a bit to work with other referees and get out of the neighborhood once and a while if it is convenient for you. For instance, if you are a player and have an early game in another area contact that club’s assignor to see if they have any games you might be able to work after your team plays. Or you can check the NCRefs.org web site for schedules.
