How to read the results/ how they were calculated.

The spreadsheet may look complicated, but it’s really not that bad.

If you haven’t used excel before:

-The first page you will be looking at will be the shorts results

-To change the page you are looking at, look at the bottom of the page for the “Shorts”, “Loops”, “GP’s, “Final Results by Class”, and “Overall Final Results” Tabs.

On the Shorts tab:

-Penalties are included

-Offsets were the top course;Ups were the middle, Reverses were the bottom.

-Offsets 1 was your first race run on the top course

-(Reverses 2is the2nd race run on the bottom course)

-Total Offsets, Total ups, and Total Reverses are the 2 race runs added together

-Total is the sum of Total Offsets, Total ups, and Total Reverses.

-CAS is the Class AdjustedScore, which is the Totaldivided by the class-adjusting percentages.

-% off leader is each Class-Adjusted Scoredivided by the fastest Class-Adjusted Score

-On the right of the page, results are ranked based on Combined Raw Times (not % off leader)

What are Class-Adjusted-Percentages and how where did they come from?

-I used the same percentages used at 2005 team trials.

-They came from research looking at historical race results in the US and internationally. By entering this info in a spreadsheet, it is possible to say that

K1’s are usually fastest (100%)

C1’s are slower (105.54% of the K1’s)

C2’s are 110.96% of the K1’s

K1W’s are 113.70% of the K1’s

On the Loops Tab:

-Times are in seconds

-Only the total time (the sum of all runs) was used. Penalties did not count

-On the right, athletes are ranked by raw time (not % off leader)

On the GPs Tab:

Ditto

On the Final Results by class Tab:

The final results are based on the average of the Percent-off-Leader Scores of each event.

AVG Percent-off-Leader= (ShortsPercent-off-Leader + Loops Percent-off-Leader + GPs Percent-off-Leader ) / 3

On the Overall Final Results Tab:

-Sorry, if a single time is missing for an athlete, it was impossible to compare that athlete to the others in the overall competition. Athletes with incomplete data sets are listed below the others. If your name is down here, there is still a lot of data here for you. Just check out how you compared in the other events.
