MR. RICKETTS’ USES THIS RUBRIC TO GRADE THE PROJECTS:
4- Project stands out as very creative and different from the others. Exercises are unique.
3- Creates a project which provides a moderate to vigorous exercise using all required components. Uses a variety of exercises and resources. Follows all guidelines of project. Project is clearly written.
2- Missing one or two components, some exercises are too similar, unclear if goals can be met, project instructions could be unclear or hard to read and/or follow
1- Project is missing 3 or more components, no variety of exercises, goals are not met, and/or sloppy plan
NOTE TO PARENTS:
Students have 3 different projects to choose from based on their interest and desired involvement level. This differentiated project is a culmination of our fitness unit. During the unit, students experience different fitness workouts, stretches, and fitness tests. This project helps them use higher order thinking skills that will help them in every area of their lives. It helps to show what they have learned during physical education class. It also shows students that language arts are important inside and outside of the classroom. Sequencing (putting things in order) is another important skill that this project helps your child practice.
As a teacher, I am used throughout this project as a resource and facilitator. Students also use research skills when selecting parts of their workout from teacher-provided idea packets and workout cards. Students then perform their self-created workout. This is one example of an authentic assessment. Please let your child complete the project by him/herself as much as possible.
