HAUDE HONORS OUR VETERANS

We have a special day planned for Tuesday, November 11th, at Haude. We want everyone to wear their red, white and blue attire to help celebrate Veterans Day. We will start our flag ceremony at 8:30 with a patriotic music parade involving all students placing flags in the front, grassy area of our school facing Louetta Road. Students have done various classroom activities to celebrate Veterans Day. Veterans are welcome to come and join us, if you choose to attend, please wear your uniform. We appreciate our Veterans!

Additional recorders have been ordered and will be available for purchase for $7.00 in the front office on or around November 18.

HAUDE LIBRARY

Thanks so much for your support during our fall Book Fair! We earned over $3000 to buy new books for Haude students. I would like to say a big “thank you” to all of our fantastic volunteers who set up the book fair, worked throughout the week, and packed everything away at the end of the fair. We couldn’t do it without your help!

We are excited to host award-winning author, Susan Stevens Crummel, in the library this month. Be sure to ask your child about her fun presentation!

ATTENDANCE/STUDENT ABSENCES

We want to continue to strive for excellence in our academic program at Haude. Thank you for stressing the importance of good attendance with your children. If it is necessary for your child to be absent, please be aware that schools are required to have a note from the parent after each absence ~ within five days of the absence. Because of Klein School District's participation in the Harris County Stay-In-School Program, the note is needed to verify the absence as an excused absence. Any absence not verified by a parent note or doctor note within five days will be considered an unexcused absence.

When your child is absent, you will receive a phone call to your “primary” phone number on file from the automated calling system, Parent Link. Calls will be made each school day starting at 11:30 a.m. Even though you may have called, a written excuse is required upon the child’s return to school. Physician or dentist notes may be faxed to school at 832-484-7862. For more information, please see the Attendance Policy in the Student Handbook available online.

SCHOOL STORE

The Haude school store is open on Tuesday and Thursday from 7:50 –8:15 a.m. The school store is located on the stage. As the year progresses and your child exhausts supplies of paper, glue, pencils, crayons, etc., these items will be available in the store.

COUNSELOR’S CORNER

Focusing on the Energy Bus Rules helps to keep us positive. Two of our goals are to love our passengers, and to enjoy the ride. As the holidays quickly approach, it’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the season. Remember to take some time away from all of the demands to refocus and keep the positivity going. A great way to do that is to help others whenever possible. Something as simple as a smile or kind word can really make the difference in someone’s day. Even better is that when you support others you feel good, too!

Thank you to everyone who participated in Red Ribbon Week and showed the commitment to living a healthy, drug-free lifestyle!

Counselor, Haude Elementary

BACKGROUND CHECK INSTRUCTIONS

Klein ISD takes the safety of our children very seriously. Every volunteer must complete a volunteer form and a background check to be allowed to volunteer. Every parent can rest assured that a volunteer that has contact with their child has had a background check performed and is approved to be around the students. This is a two-part procedure that must be completed online.

Directions: Log on to Kleinisd.net.Click on the Volunteer link at the bottom in the blue Parents section. Then click on ‘Volunteer Sign Up’. Click on step 1 to sign up as a new volunteer. Next, be sure to click on step 2 for the criminal background check, then ‘Fill in Criminal Background Info’. Fill out each field and then submit.

You should receive an email from our CERVIS volunteer software indicating when you have been approved – this takes approximately two weeks. You may email the Volunteer Coordinator for Haude, Aletha Bradley, at , with any questions or problems with this procedure.

SCHOOL HOURS

The doors to Haude are open from 7:50 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There is no supervision prior to 7:50 a.m. We ask parents to reinforce to their children the importance of remembering everything they will need for assignments before leaving their classroom at the end of the day. As a safety precaution, children will not be allowed to re-enter the building after 4:00 p.m. We ask you to remind your child that there are logical consequences for not bringing home books needed for homework.

BALANCE OWED – REPORT CARD HOLDS

When students misplace their library books, notices are sent from the librarian to the parents about the cost of replacing the book. Notices are also sent each week from the Food Service Manager if your child has borrowed money for breakfast or lunch. Monies owed to the library and to the cafeteria are expected to be paid prior to the end of each marking period. Report cards will be held for nonpayment of lost books, as well as balances of $1.65 and higher in the cafeteria. If you have special circumstances, please contact Ms. Jaffray, our librarian, Mrs. Rossi, our cafeteria manager, or our principal, Mrs. Wall. Thank you for your attention to these outstanding balances.

VISITORS TO HAUDE

Parents are encouraged to visit our school at any time. It is a pleasure to show you our educational program as well as have you visit for lunch. Feel free to park in any of the parking spaces around Haude. We ask that you please do not park in the designated handicapped parking spaces unless you have a clearly visible handicapped license plate or tag.

For the security of our students, we remind parents to sign in and register at the main office before proceeding to the instructional areas or cafeteria/gym. Please make sure to indicate the reason you are in the building on the sign-in sheet; for example, eating lunch with child, PTO meeting, teacher conference, etc. It is strongly recommended that you have scheduled a teacher conference prior to your arrival. By scheduling an appointment, you are guaranteeing your time with the teacher.

Please do not be offended if staff members ask you to sign in at the front office and receive a nametag. Faculty and staff have been instructed to ask anyone visiting Haude, and not wearing a nametag printed from our V-Soft security system, to go to the office for a nametag. You will need to present your driver’s license to be scanned. Understand that this is for the safety of the children at Haude.

Per school procedure, visits to individual classrooms once instructional time has begun shall only be permitted with the principal’s approval. If you need to get a message or item to your child, the Haude staff will be happy to do this for you at a time that does not interrupt instruction.

In addition to Haude’s important events, you may view the newsletter in its entirety on the web at http://classroom.kleinisd.net/webs/haude/haude_news.htm.

A big “Thank You” goes out to our wonderful PTO for a great “Dads and Donuts” on October 15th and 16th. The following area businesses donated items to help make this event a success:

·  Top Donuts (Louetta location)

·  Sprouts Farmers Market (Kuykendahl location)

·  Mama Juanita’s (Louetta location)

Not only did our many Jags and Dads get to enjoy the donuts and fresh fruit, but we were able to share some of the goodies with Stack Intermediate teachers, Fire Fighters at the Spring Fire Department Cypresswood Station and the Service Men at the U.S. Military Recruiting Station on Kuykendahl.

CARPOOL PROCEDURES

If you are dropping your student off in the morning, please enter off of Louetta Road and follow the driveway that runs in front of the cafeteria doors. Since all parents have to follow the one-way exit out, always have your children exit the car by the nearest adult on the sidewalk as this helps keep the line flowing. We also request that you do not park in the front parking lot of our school during carpool times. Backing out of these front parking spaces causes the carpool line to slow down considerably and is also a safety issue for all our walkers and bike riders. Please park in the parking lot by the cafeteria in the morning and enter through that door.

PARKING

Please remember to always park in a visitor parking space during the school day, rather than stopping in the front of the school. That area is a Fire Zone, so parking there is dangerous and it creates traffic flow problems as well.

EARLY DISMISSAL PROCEDURE

If you know that your child will have to leave early, please send a note on the morning of the early dismissal. The office will sign an early dismissal permission form. Parents will be required to come in and sign the child out before he/she will be allowed to leave the school. It would be to your advantage to obtain a doctor’s note or excuse when your child has an appointment with a doctor or dentist. These forms should be given to our attendance office for processing. We request all early dismissals take place prior to 2:45. After 2:45 we are involved in regular dismissal procedures. Please help us have a safe and orderly dismissal. Thank you!
