Applying security features to plastic cards just got easier

Leonhard Kurz equips stamping unit with new features

Fürth/Germany, 7 November 2012: Leonhard Kurz, a global supplier of card components, has extended its MM series with a new machine for precision hot stamping of plastic cards. The new MM-7000 promises higher performance in production, maximum flexibility in use, and improved ergonomics. “We have equipped the MM-7000 with an innovative conveying system, a state-of-the-art controller, and high-performance drive systems”, reports Bernhard Simon, Sales Manager for Hot Stamping Machines at Kurz, “thereby enabling us to achieve a significant increase in performance while maintaining the same high-quality foil application results that our MM series is world renowned for”.

The MM-7000 comes with a novel card separation and conveying system that can process cards of various thicknesses, and separate even problematic cards reliably and without scratches. The new system also reduces setup times and offers greater flexibility with regard to stamping formats and card thicknesses. The stampable area now extends to the entire surface of the card, thereby offering virtually unlimited design freedom. The conveying system also eliminates any contact of the cards with static machine parts, thus avoiding any rubbing and the resultant damage to the card. Production reliability and productivity have also been increased with this new system.

The machine employs a roll-on process but can optionally be reconfigured for vertical stamping. Short setup times and trouble-free operation are assured thanks to the following user-friendly features: the incorporation of a new touchscreen controller; electrical adjustment of the stamping position, and electronic recording of the stamping pressure, whereby tried-and-proven settings can be recalled at any time. Two motor-driven foil release plates moving in opposing directions ensure a fast, clean release of the stamping foil. The machine is also equipped with a vertically-pivoting protective hood that guarantees optimum accessibility.

The high-performance MM-7000 is the new flagship product in the MM series. The MM6000 which, according to Kurz, has been very successful in the market and is well known for its precision and reliability, will continue to be sold alongside the MM-7000.

The new MM-7000 was presented for the first time at this year's Cartes exhibition in Paris. At the Kurz booth one could see live demonstrations of this machine and convince oneself of its capabilities.
