On the other hand, Tommy and Elisa’s father wants some unhealthy snacks for the football match in the late evening. Their mother decides to do some tricks to make him understand what a healthy diet should be. Can Tommy, Elisa andtheir fatherget the food and drinks they want?

Communicative functions

1. Expandvocabularyabout food and drinks bybuilding words such as “oranges, orange juice”, “cream, ice cream, chocolate ice cream”, etc.

2. Use noun phrases to refer to quantities, e.g.,“a carton of orange juice”, “2 boxes of chocolate ice cream”, etc.

3. Identify the compound nouns that are two or more words put together to create a new meaning, e.g., “peanuts”, ‘jellybeans”, ‘popcorn”

Suggested activities

1. Introduce the programme briefly with the main characters, Tommy, Elisa, Dad and Mum.

2. Draw pupils’ attention to the animated teaching segments where the vocabulary expansionisbasically built on additions of nouns and their plural forms;and

sometimes deletion of the plural form of the front noun

List of the vocabulary items:

oranges juice

Here, have the pupils do a quick revision of countable and uncountable nouns. The replacement of the pluralof the first noun by singular usually happens in word combinations. Therefore, pupils will see “apple juice”, not “apples juice”.

This is a vocabulary-focused learning activity to develop pupils’ sense of word association.

Teacher may need to explain some vocabulary items if pupils have problems with any of them in the first place.
