TOU 11AC FINAL PROJECT/TAE
June 2006
This project requires you a) SET UP A TRAVEL AGENCY BUSINESS, b) RESEARCH A COUNTRY FOR A FAMILY TO TRAVEL TO FOR A 7-DAY VACATION, and finally to c) PLAN THE TRIP TO THE SMALLEST DETAIL FOR THIS FAMILY. Your choices of family structure and budget are as follows:
Ø Family “A” is comprised of a divorced father (37 yrs old, traveling sales representative for Atlantic Canada), and a 9 year-old son. Budget of $5,500 CDN.
Ø Family “B” is a second marriage for both the mother and father. Comprised of father (51 yrs old, hospital executive), mother (40 yrs old, homemaker), father’s 19-year-old daughter, and mother’s 6-year-old female twins. Budget of $8,000 CDN.
Ø Family “C” is comprised of a father (43 yrs old, lawyer), mother (44 yrs old, teacher), a 16-year-old daughter, and an 11-year-old son. Budget of $10,000 CDN.
COMPONENT A: TRAVEL AGENCY BUSINESS (approx 5 – 10 slides)
Ø Create and develop a logo for your travel agency
Ø Create and develop a catch-phrase, slogan, or motto for your travel agency
Ø Create a proper business card (listen closely for the explanation) and provide hard copy
Ø Create a full-page magazine ad for your travel agency stating your business – who you are, what you do for prospective clients etc
Ø Similar to the Matari Lodge assignment you completed in November, create a tri-fold brochure for your business
COMPONENT B: COUNTRY RESEARCH (approx 10 – 15 slides)
You should research the following:
Ø First thing – GO TO A TRAVEL AGENCY AND GET INFORMATION ON THE COUNTRY OF DESTINATION – use this information to help you complete the research on your country as well as trip planning (costs, places to stay, eat, etc.)
Ø Facts about the country (population, geographic area, demographics, government structure, economic system, medical facilities, etc)
Ø Economic facts (exports, imports, chief agricultural products, foreign exchange, currency, transportation modes available in the country)
Ø Culture and customs (customs which affect business relations, holidays, major religions, etiquette)
Ø NOTE: IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED THAT YOU USE THE LINKS ON MR. STEWART’S WEBSITE UNDER TOURISM 11 TO FIND INFORMATION TO COMPLETE THE ABOVE POINTS
COMPONENT C: THE FAMILY VACATION (approx. 10 – 15 slides)
Ø You now need to make the arrangements for your family of four as they are traveling abroad
Ø Travel information (methods/costs of travel to the country from YHZ – the flight – airline, costs for return tickets, etc)
Ø Create an airline baggage stub showing Halifax as your departure and your choice of country’s airport as your destination.
Ø Methods of travel while in the country – your family needs to get around and see the sights, take in activities, etc. Depending on the country, your family may opt to travel by renting a car, taking the bus, high-speed rail, etc.
Ø Hotel accommodations – your family must stay in at least 2 different four-star hotels on the trip in different areas/regions/cities/towns.
Ø Eating - general costs of meals/restaurants, whether North American food is served in that country, when people tend to eat, etc.
Ø ALL OF THIS MUST BE ACCOMPLISHED ON A BUDGET OF $? – SHOW YOUR EXPENSES ON A SPREADSHEET SIMILAR TO THE UP TO YOUR NECK IN NOVA SCOTIA PROJECT
NOTE: COMPONENTS B AND C MUST BE COMPUTER GENERATED – HAVE FUN, USE COLOUR, IMAGES, WORD ART, CLIP ART ETC.
Presentation format:
Ø Pass in ALL travel books, brochures, etc. you received from a travel agency
Ø PowerPoint Presentation – sent via e-mail or burned to a CD
Ø You are required to do a hand-drawn story-board for your PowerPoint before you begin to use as a rough guide and aid you in your project
Ø Number of slides is determined by the thoroughness of your research
Ø All components above should be represented in the slide show
Ø Limit of three students per country
Please see Mr. Stewart’s website links for some aid in finding information on the topic.
