l 1986: Diploma in Physics, ETH, Zürich, Switzerland. Diploma thesis in condensed matter physics.
l 1991: Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from ETH, Zürich (supervisor: Prof. Richard R.R. Ernst). Thesis title: “Structural Dynamics in Biomolecules Monitored by Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Relaxation”
l 1991 – 1994: Postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Molecular Biology at the Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla, California (advisors: Profs. P.E. Wright and D.A. Case)
l 1994 – 1998: Research faculty (Oberassistent) at the Laboratorium für Physikalische Chemie at ETH, Zürich
