The Department of Curriculum & Instruction requires student teachers to complete a minimum of 14 weeks of student teaching. This attendance is full time, as discussed in the Student Teaching Handbook. Student Teachers may need to extend their placements beyond the University semester in order to satisfy this requirement. The Department adheres to the definition of subdivision 52.21(b) xiii of the state regulations: “Student teaching means a structured, college-supervised learning experience for a student in a teacher education program in which the student teacher practices the skills being learned in the teacher education program and gradually assumes increased responsibility for instruction, classroom management, and other related duties for a class of students in the area of the certificate sought. These skills are practiced under the direct supervision of the certified teacher who has the official responsibility for the class.”
The table below is to be filled out on a weekly basis. School officials should sign off on the table
at the end of each placement, and the University Supervisor at the end of the Student Teaching semester.
