Systems for business.

Responsibility
The student shall be responsible for all material covered in the class lectures. Each exam will include not
only the material from the lectures, but also slides, assigned text chapters, readings, and any other materials covered in the class lectures. You are also responsible for any announcements made in class. Often times I have to change the Class Schedule, or I make announcements relevant for assignments. Schedule changes will be posted on Moodle.
Exams
This course will have 3 exams. I won’t give any make-up exams! In case of an emergency, contact me as soon as
possible to make plans for dealing with the situation. Also, you should have proof to back up the reason for your absence. If you were to miss an exam for whatever reason, I have the full authority to decide if you deserve another chance. If I were to decide to give you another chance, you have to take a comprehensive multiple choice final exam without the multiple choice answers. Test dates are in the syllabus and in the course schedule. These dates are subject to change, but students will be notified at least a week in advance.
Quizzes
There will be 12 quizzes, one for each chapter covered. I will post the quizzes on Moodle, and they will be
due on the following Monday at 5 p.m. You will be allowed to drop two quizzes for any reason; however, you may and are encouraged to attempt all 12. Only the top 10 quizzes will be calculated towards your final
grade.
Assignments
Business Analysis Assignments (total of 10 points for each assignment)
I will be conducting several assignments in order for you to get familiarized with different applications. These
are mainly conducted as group projects due to technological limitations, but you are welcome to work on your own if it is more convenient. In case of a conflict with a group member, first attempt to resolve it within the group, and approach me if you can’t come to an agreement unanimously. You can fire a group member unanimously, but inform the group member and myself about your decision prior to taking such actions. A picture of the correct output of each assignment will be available on Moodle. I will be demonstrating the assignment in class as well, but the students who go through the instructions and submit the correct output
with formulas and appropriate business comments/decisions before the demonstration will gain total points for each assignment. For each error, you will lose 0.5 points. Those who wait to complete the assignment with
me in class will receive only a total of 7 points given that there won’t be any errors. Thus, please review and verify your outputs many times with your group members prior to submission. Those who don’t submit any,
won’t receive any points. The purpose of this assignment is for you get familiar with how projects are
done in the industry and be responsible for your own work.
In Class Participation Assignments (total of 5 points for each assignment)
15 minutes before the end of each class, I would like for you to discuss the latest emerging technology,
technical skill requirements for a job of your choice, or current job trends in information systems field. You have to come in front of the class, use the link where the information resides, and discuss your viewpoint for
not more than a minute. Points are granted on a first come first serve basis, so please e‐mail me and confirm
beforehand.
Although there may be times that I may be absent for professional reasons, I expect you to do your work on a given assignment and submit it within the class period.
Attendance
As stated in Chapter 3 of the University Catalog, Louisiana Tech University uses the Class Attendance Policy of
the University of Louisiana System. Minimum class attendance regulations for the colleges and universities
under the control of the Board are as follows: Class attendance is regarded as an obligation as well as a privilege, and all students are expected to attend regularly and punctually all classes in which they are enrolled. Failure to do so may jeopardize the student's scholastic standing and may lead to suspension from Louisiana Tech.

Participation and Professionalism
As business students, it is important that you are able to conduct yourself in a professional and courteous manner.
Please refer to the College of Business Student Responsibilities for details on appropriate classroom decorum.
Academic Integrity
Students are expected to read, understand, and adhere to the Louisiana Tech Academic Honor Code. Violations of
the honor code will be reported. Any kind of academic misconduct including cheating, plagiarism, or academic fraud will not be tolerated and will be turned over to the University Academic Honesty Process. I have adopted a very simple but strict policy within the overall university guidelines to maintain academic integrity. In all cases of academic dishonesty (for example, cheating of any kind in labs, quizzes and exams or plagiarism in project reports), the involved student(s) will get the grade of Fail (F) for the whole course. Exceptions will be made only in rare cases, in which the student makes a convincing case of the situation beyond the control of the student.
Students with Disabilities
“Qualified students needing testing or classroom accommodations based on a disability are encouraged to make
their requests to me at the beginning of the quarter either during office hours or by appointment. Note: Prior to receiving disability accommodations, verification of eligibility from the Testing and Disability Services Office is needed. Disability information is confidential. Information for Testing and Disability Services may be obtained in Wyly Tower 318 or www.latech.edu/ods.” (Refer students who do not present an accommodations memo from the Office of Disability Services to that office or to www.latech.edu/ods for assistance.
Emergency Notification System (ENS): “Emergency Notification System: All Louisiana Tech students are strongly encouraged to enroll and update their contact information in the Emergency Notification System. It takes just a few seconds to ensure you’re able to receive important text and voice alerts in the event of a campus emergency. For more information on the Emergency Notification System, please visit http://www.latech.edu/administration/ens.shtml.
Disaster Preparedness
In the event that a disaster or other emergency results in campus closure, this course will continue via Moodle.
You will be required to login to Moodle for further instructions. Please enroll in the Emergency Notification System to receive official campus updates. You may also refer to http://www.latech.edu or http://www.latech.info for updates.
I reserve the right, when necessary, to modify the syllabus, to change examination dates, and to modify the course content. Modifications will be announced and discussed in class. You are responsible for those changes.
