Women’s Rugby Academy supported by University of Ulster and Ulster Rugby.
The University of Ulster propose to induct up to six female rugby players into its newly formed Women’s Rugby Academy. This Academy will be part of the wider University of Ulster Sports Academy and will receive support from the Ulster Rugby Academy which is also based at the University. This initiative has several objectives:-
*Assist players to develop who are currently within the Senior Irish set up
*Assist players to develop who are currently within the Senior Ulster set up with potential to move into the Irish set up
*Assist players to develop who have the potential to move into the Senior Ulster set up
*Promote Ulster and University of Ulster Women’s Rugby
To attain our objectives the successful applicants will be provided with fitness testing, strength and conditioning support (including personalised programmes), nutritional advice, personalised rugby skills sessions, physiotherapy and doctor support, onsite ultrasound diagnosis and CRY screening.
Selection Criteria
- Must currently be a student or will enrol as a student within the University of Ulster for the 2008-09 academic year. This includes the Jordanstown, Coleraine, Magee and Belfast Campuses
- Must be available to attend two strength and conditioning and one skills session per week *
- Must make themselves available to represent the University in any/all relevant varsity fixtures
- After the application process may be required to undergo fitness or skills assessments, or both and may be required to attend a formal interview.
Candidates will be selected by representatives from the University of Ulster, Ulster Rugby and the IRFU (Ulster Branch). After selection, all successful applicants will be required to maintain established targets of attendance and performance as agreed with the Ulster Sports Academy and Ulster Rugby.
Closing Dates for Application forms is Friday 10th October 2008 at 4pm.
* Successful Candidates will be required to attend two, one hour strength & conditioning sessions between the following times Monday 12-2pm, Tuesday 12-2pm, and Thursday 12-2pm. The skills session is likely to be on a Wednesday afternoon. Again this session will last approximately one hour in duration.

The University of Ulster invites applications to the Women’s Rugby Academy. Students on all Ulster campuses are eligible to apply.
The aim of the Academy is to give players the opportunity to develop their rugby playing ability with the potential t
hat they will then be capable of successfully representing Ulster and Ireland on a regular basis.
It is a condition of the Academy that successful applicants must make a significant contribution to rugby at their respective campus.
Each player shall be developed on an individual basis.
Applications will be assessed on merit but will only be considered from those who have reached the required playing standard or are assessed to have the necessary potential to reach that standard.
All successful candidates will be required to maintain a satisfactory academic, playing and training standard throughout the duration of their stay in the Academy and must already be or become Sports Centre & Sports Union members. Any Academy member that does not meet the required academic/playing or training standard may have their position within the Academy reviewed. If this standard cannot be adhered to Academy members may be removed with two weeks notice and their place awarded to another suitable candidate.
