STATE-TRIBAL EDUCATION COMPACTS, HB 1134
1. Purpose: Funding is provided to support the implementation of HB 1134, State-Tribal Education Compacts.

5. What is the current status of this program’s implementation? Three tribal compact schools have been integrated into the SAFS data systems for the 2014-15 school year. Applications which needed to accomadate tribal compact schools at the beginning of the school year included the apportionment system and the enrollment reporting system. Three Tribal Compact School applications were received in 2014-15. Due to Tribal leadership requests to place their respective requests on-hold, applications were not approved. They will be reconsidered in 2015-16, if Tribal leadership requests OSPI to consider the applications they previously presented. In addition to working with leadership from these three tribes, contacts were made with a number of other tribes by the Office of Native Edcuation’s program superivisor, Michael Vendiola.

Budget Proviso: ESSB 6052, Sec 1501 (1) (p): $68,000 of the general fund- -state appropriation for fiscal year 2014 and $14,000 of the general fund—state appropriation for fiscal year 2015 are provided solely for the implementation of House Bill No. 1134 (state-tribal ecuation compacts). If the bill is not enacted by June 30, 2013, the amounts provided in this subsection shall lapse.
