People's Climate March

In September, world leaders are coming to New York City for a historic UN summit on climate change. With the whole world watching, concerned people from all over the country will be going to NYC on September 21 to show their support for global policies that limit climate change: http://peoplesclimatemarch.org.

The Maine UU State Advocacy Network (MUUSAN) has charted a bus to help make The Peoples Climate March the largest-ever demonstration demanding action on climate change. The bus will leave from the parking lot on Marginal Way (near highway & bus company) at 5 a.m. September 21, arrive NYC around 11:30 a.m.; leave NYC at 8 p.m.; arrive in Portland 2:30 a.m. September 22. Full price seats will cost $40 and student/reduced seats will cost $30. For information on how to reserve your seat, contact Melanie Lanctot at . Make reservations now because seats are going fast! Hope you can join us in the biggest Climate Rally yet!

Building and Grounds NEWS

FYI, the church will be power washed on Tuesday, Aug 5th in prep for staining the church. Please make sure that all windows and doors are shut tight. Anyone wanting to use the parking spaces in front of the garage or on Summer St alongside the church, it would probably be best to park on Winthrop St, away from the church.

Building and Grounds Committee Seeking Members

We guarantee your time will not be taken up in meetings. We will meet annually to prioritize big projects and the rest of the year communicate by email. You would need to attend the monthly second Saturday work days when possible and take responsibility for occasional minor repairs and maintenance that come up come up during the month if Tom is navailable. Please call 512-5382 or email if you are willing to be a committee member. Thank you!

MUUSAN News

The Maine Unitarian Universalist State Advocacy Network (MUUSAN) has chartered a bus to travel to NYC for the People's Climate March on September 21st. There are 55 seats on the bus and although we'd love to fill them with UUs, seat reservations are open to all. Reservations can be made at our Eventbrite page http://www.eventbrite.com.

If you are unable to attend but would like to participate, you are welcome to contribute by making a donation to help with traveling expenses. Watch the People's Climate March website or the MUUSAN website for more information on how you can be involved locally.

There is a group in NYC organizing the thousands of UUs who are expected to attend. Check out what they're doing at UU Justice Web, a meet-up page.

MIGRANT COLLECTION REMINDER 8/3 and 8/10

There are 2 more Sundays to bring in contributions for the Resource Fair for migrant farmworkers that will be held in Ellsworth August 12th. Our partner Maine Migrant Health has requested any of the following clothing and non-perishable food items. The fair is an opportunity for workers in the Ellsworth area to gather and receive tangible items that make their lives a bit easier. Since we are not aware of any blueberry pickers living in the Augusta area for the 2014 harvest, the Immigration Work Group is supporting this event. Boxes are in the coat room. Thank you!

UUCC has a long- standing tradition in which members and friends return from their summer sojourns with a vessel of water from their travels. The water communion ritual is a annual event in which our individual water is collected in one large vessel to symbolize our unity amid our diversity.

This year we are asking members and friends of the congregation to bring in water from local sources. Waters gathered while partaking in the age old ritual of community building with nature, friends, family, committees, small groups. In addition to bringing the water,

We are also asking members and friends to bring in a photo from one summer adventure. The picture may or may not be the adventure wherein you gathered your water. The only requirement is it is taken in community that inspires or transforms, celebrates or memorializes, brings a sense of peace or stirs up anticipation and excitement.
