 Pier 2 Art District. (駁二藝術特區) Near Sizihwan MRT Station (捷運西子灣站) on the orange line. The art district spans over the area of a former train station and shipping pier and is visited by locals for strolls in the park or picnics on the meadow. The old railway tracks have been transformed into an open space with old locomotives, flowers and pieces of art. Following the bike path towards Pier 2, there are murals on the walls of old storage halls and a huge bumblebee statue (from Transformers). The halls at Pier 2 show changing exhibitions. All over the area, coffee and ice cream shops invite the visitor to rest and enjoy drinks and snacks. – Mayday DNA robot

  • Dream Mall. Dream Mall (夢時代購物中心; Mèng shídài gòuwù zhòng xīn) is the largest shopping mall in Taiwan and 2nd largest in Asia (07/2008). The mall is a bit out of the way, but there is a free shuttle bus to and from Kaisyuan station. Ride the ferris wheel (formerly Hello Kitty-themed, but now featuring Taiwanese mascot "Open-chan" and friends) on the roof for a nice view of the city. There are various locations in the mall with lockers (free ones on the top floor for the ferris wheel, coin-operated ones on the ground floor) to store your bags while you shop.edit
  • British consulate. You can enjoy a beautiful view of Kaohsiung city.Kaohsiung Metro toward Sizihwan Station, continue by Kaohsiung Bus (No.99 or Orange 1A) to Syongjhen north gate Station.
  • The Dome of Light. (光之穹頂; Guāng zhī qióngdǐng) is a public artwork in the Formosa Boulevard MRT Station. Created by Italian artist Narcissus Quagliata, it is the world's largest stained glass installation. The dome is divided into four sections: water, earth, light and fire. It also takes the form of a yin and yang symbol. An audio guide (available in several languages) can be borrowed from the KRTC Art Shop inside the station. It costs NT$30 and gives a half hour narration of the key features of the artwork.
  • Lotus Lake/Lotus Pond (尾北里), Zuoying District (North of Zuoying HSR station). Take a walk or bike around Lotus Lake. The lake is surrounded by temples, some of which have built out onto the lake. Of note are the Dragon-Tiger Pavilion and Spring Autumn Pavilion, as well as Taiwan's largest Confucius temple. During the day the lake is surrounded with stalls selling food, drinks and trinkets. Across the street from the Dragon-Tiger Pavilion is a Taiwanese puppet shop that's worth checking out. Just south of the lake is one of the restored gates of the Old Wall of Fongshan, built in 1826. A few blocks down on Shengli Road is the North Gate, the best-preserved of the three. On the other side of the gate is a new park and the Military Dependents' Museum, which features many vintage Taiwanese household items.

  • Hike Monkey Mountain (壽山; Shòu shān) and enjoy the view of the city and the ocean. Beware of the namesake monkeys, who have been known to steal hikers' food, drinks, and even cameras. Shoushan (壽山; Shòu shān), also known as Monkey Mountain, is on the west coast, across the harbor from Cijin. All along the mountain, it is possible to see monkeys looking for a snack. Although there are signs posted forbidding feeding the monkeys, some of the locals don't hesitate to do so. Some monkeys are nice, but some can be nasty and attack as soon as they see some food. There is also a small zoo with some exotic animals. Entrance ticket costs 40 NTD. Shoushan is easily reached by bus no 56 that leaves infront of the railway station. Bus goes to the gate of shoushan zoo. If you want to go to climb the mountain, the starting point is few hundred meters below the zoo. Good walking shoes(or sneakers) are necessary on the mountain. Totally recommendable for those who want to get a break from citylife. A bit farther north, on the western side of the mountain, is the highly recommended Chaishan Nature park, a network raised trails through the banyan forest where you are guaranteed to see wild monkeys. The trails start next to Longquan Temple, which you can get to by bus from KMRT Sizihwan station

részletesen Forest Recreation Are

The Forest Recreation Area is divided into two quite different halves. After entering and walking along the accessroad from the entrance into the park (admiring the huge, gnarled old tree on the right about halfway along and looking out for Formosan Macaques which live in the trees here), ignore the botanical garden area on the left unless you have plenty of time or love these kind of places, and concentrate on the natural half of the park. The wide concrete tracks soon narrow to something a bit less ugly and intrusive, and a network of paths wind through a landscape of uplifted coral formations clothed with a dense canopy of trees (many growing straight out of the coral). A pair of deep narrow clefts through the coral are quite impressive, but the highlight of the area is the pair of stalactite caves on the route. The Fairy Cave (仙洞) is supposedly the largest of its kind in Taiwan. Much smaller, but more claustrophobic and atmospheric, the Silver Dragon Cave (銀龍洞) is a long, narrow tunnel lined with beautiful white flowstone formations which all but cover the walls of the cave. The third cave in the park(the Stalactite Cave), in the BotanicalGarden half of the recreation area), is much smaller than the other two, and has a single, large cluster of formations stretching from the ceiling of the cave’s single small chamber to its floor,
Sheding Park (社頂自然公園) two gorges here are bigger and more impressive than the clefts at the Forest Recreation Area a few minutes’ drive away, and several spots offer panoramic views over the peninsula and the ocean. The paths also are much less intrusive, often natural dirt, and there’s no admission fee. Go early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the crowds and it’s an extraordinary landscape to explore.

  1. Shakadang Trail砂卡噹步道Mysterious Valley Trail: kb 3 óra: 1 km a bejárattól + (4.4km to 3D Cabin) (round trip 8.8km)

The trail entrance is near the park headquarters to the west. Through the tunnel of Shakadang about 1km from the headquarters, there is a Shakadang bridge connect to it. On the right of the bridge head, take the staircase down to the trailhead. The round trip takes about 3-4 hours walking time to 3D Cabin. Please turn around at the 3D Cabin. The trail beyond 3D Cabin requires an entry permit to enter Dali and Datung.

the Shakadang Trail passes through a Truku tribal village. Though entry into their reservation is prohibited, a small market is open to visitors and features local artisans and food vendors welcoming you to sample some indigenous delights.

Though an easy walk (roughly 2 hours round trip, little elevation change)

  1. Changchun Trail長春祠(Eternal Spring Shrine Trail) (1.35km) sajnos sokszor le van zárva

The Eternal Spring Shine is a pleasant detour from the main road about 2km from the park entrance. The trail is only 2km a loop from the trailhead behind the shrine to the small Zen monastery (Changuang Temple) at the far end. Visitors are reminded to take care on the steep stairs and to beware of falling rocks. Please mind the slippery floor while wet.

3. Swallow Grotto燕子口(Yanzikou) Trail(1.37km)

The swallow Grotto trail features marble gorge, potholes, the famous rock formation “Indian Head Rock”,Zhuilu Cliff and geology. This trail used to be the old road. This area is susceptible to rockfalls after heavy rains and earthquakes. Wearing a hard hat is advised.

4. Tunnel of Nine Turns Trail (1.9km/1.2mile) (Jiuqudong) sokszor lezárva

The trail starts from either one of the east or west entrances to the Tunnel, at the Central Cross-Island Highway about 14km away from the east entrance .It takes about 40 minutes to walk one way. Along the trail one can enjoy the marble gorges, the rivers, the cliffs, tunnels, and the ecosystem of the vegetation growing amidst the rocky terrain. What's more, one can also observe the phenomenon of ascending air current. This trail is one of the cream of Taroko Gorge's trails.

5. Baiyang Waterfall白楊瀑布 (2.2 km) (round trip 4 km)

Seven hundred meters up the highway from Tianxiang is a tunnel carved into the cliff at the roadside. The tunnel is about 380 meters long, and the trail continues from the far end. An hour walk brings you to Baiyang Waterfall. This trail exhibits splendid examples of the geology and morphology of the marble gorge. The path is wide and well maintained with a comfortable pavilion near the waterfall. Shuilien Tunnel, beyond Baiyang Waterfall, is closed. Please do not enter.(This section of river is the main Liwu River; the section of river the highway follows out from Tianxiang is only a tributary).Shortly after the falls, continuing another 300 meters further you will reach the Water Curtain, which is created by spring water falling from the tunnel roof. If you would like to experience a natural shower, be sure to bring a raincoat with you! Normally, it takes two to three hours to complete the round-trip hike of the Baiyang Trail.
(Please bring a flash light.)

6. Wenshan Hot Spring (文山野溪溫泉)

Starting from the Wenshan parking lot, expect to hike downhill and across a suspension bridge to reach the springs, 15 minutes, tops. Along the way, you'll find nicely maintained changing rooms and showers, as well as lockersshould you need to stow your belongings.

Unlike most hot springs in Taiwan which are part of larger resorts, Wenshan is no-frills outdoor pool nestled away in a shallow cave on the north bank of the Liwu River. The hot spring is fed by steaming water that flows from a crack in the marble face. The intimacy of this riverside location is unparalleled, and you'll come away feeling you discovered a gem of Taiwan. And for good reason: few locals are aware it even exists!

8. Chongde Trail崇德(320m/20mints) (640m round trip) sajnos sokszor le van zárva

The trail is about 9km(about 15 minutes by car)from Taroko park headquarters. The trail starts at the parking lots of Chongde tunnel north entrance (at 176.4km Hwy. No 9) at Su-Hua highway. It takes approximately 20 minutes to seashore. Sights to be seen include the coastal plants, pebble shoreline, the Qingshui Cliff清水斷崖, and the beautiful Pacific Ocean.

Lüshui-Wenshan Trail

After the Jhuilu Old Trail, this is Taroko's best day hike, a superb four- to five-hour tramp through subtropical forests with grand sweeping views down the peak-studded gorge. With few hikers about, you stand a good chance of seeing wildlife, including monkeys, barking deer, squirrels and various pheasants.

The trail affords the most dramatic scenery as you head downhill, but it's difficult to coordinate a start at the upper trailhead (it literally starts in the middle of a tunnel that begins at Km166). Easiest is to start at the same entrance to the Lüshui-Heliu Trail and head up. This also allows you to stop in at the Wenshan Hot Springs at the end of the hike (the hot springs are at the beginning of the tunnel at Km166). From here back to Tienhsiang it's a manageable 2.5km.

You need a mountain permit for this hike, which can be applied for on the spot at the Tienhsiang Police Station.
