Welch Allyn Partners With Premedics, Inc. For AED Program Services and
Support in Public Access Market
Multi-year contract provides solutions package for AED program management services
Skaneateles Falls, NY, USA, February 6, 2004 -- Welch Allyn, a leading global manufacturer of frontline medical products and solutions, today announced a four-year national partnership agreement with Premedics, Inc. to provide comprehensive automatic external defibrillator (AED) program management services. The agreement establishes Premedics as the AED/CPR training and program maintenance solutions provider for all Welch Allyn AED's sold into the public access defibrillation (PAD) marketplace.
Welch Allyn AED customers will now have access to Premedics’ "AED Expert On-Site" suite of services that includes AED program automation, management, medical compliance, program indemnification, AED implementation and American Heart Association Heartsaver AED/CPR training. These compliance services are monitored through their patent-pending; web-based services system, AED Manager™. AED Manager notifies users when critical actions must be taken—such as replacing defibrillator pads or batteries, updating training certifications, and ensuring trained staff is always available to handle medical emergencies. In addition, AED Manager issues monthly reports to each program site via a summary "READY Report™" to site coordinators providing a convenient snapshot of program readiness and identifying any actionable tasks.
"The Premedics partnership provides Welch Allyn with a great opportunity to offer our AED customers a complete AED program solution, including American Heart Association approved AED/CPR training, AED readiness management and program liability indemnification," according to Mark Smith, Welch Allyn’s director of market development for PAD. "Our goal is to bundle the AED and the comprehensive solutions package together to ensure that our customers are always ready to react appropriately in the event of a sudden cardiac event."

According to the American Heart Association (AHA), just seven percent of the approximately 220,000 Americans who suffer a sudden cardiac arrest each year survive the attack. The AHA estimates that as many as 50,000 lives could be saved every year if automatic defibrillators were more widely available—and if people were trained to use them. The Welch Allyn AED10 and AED 20 are specially designed to promote ease-of-use by first responders, which is an important tool in reducing such mortality.
"The dynamics of the resuscitation field have changed and customers are taking a more active role in their state of readiness," according to Brent Hetherington, CEO & Founder of Premedics. "We're pleased to partner with Welch Allyn and offer a premium suite of services that complement their exciting new AED products."
In addition to AEDs, Welch Allyn also manufactures and markets a complete line of sophisticated crash cart defibrillators and multi-parameter monitors for the treatment of sudden cardiac arrest and related cardiopulmonary emergency events.
