Biography –Rob Walker, Stakeholder Engagement Group Manager, CASA
Rob Walker is Group Manager Stakeholder Engagement Group at the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA). He is a member of the CASA Executive Committee and is also Chair of the CASA Risk and Investment Committee.
Rob has over 35 years stakeholder engagement, public affairs and media experience.
Prior to joining CASA in 2016, Rob worked at Airservices Australia in a similar senior management role. Rob is passionate about aviation and is well known to many in the industry.
As Group Manager he has responsibility for CASA’s stakeholder engagement and communication with the aviation community, government, national and international agencies and the general public.
The Stakeholder Engagement Group is made up of five branches: Industry Relations, Safety Promotion, Stakeholder Communication, Training and Government and International Relations.
The Industry Relations Branch works to foster closer relationships with all segments of the industry with a particular focus on general aviation. The CASA Aviation Safety Advisors work with industry at the local level in each state and provide front-line engagement through Aviation Safety Seminars. The Industry Relations Branch also manages the secretariat for the Aviation Safety Advisory Panel (ASAP) and the Regional Airspace Procedures Advisory Committees (RAPACs) across Australia.
The Safety Promotion Branch is responsible for developing and delivering CASA’s safety promotion campaigns and initiatives to the wider Australian aviation industry. This includes the corporate social responsibility program including sponsorships and events management.
The Stakeholder Communication Branch is responsible for all corporate communication, including media relations; staff and external communications including CASA’s internet and intranet website publishing and social media channels.
The Training Branch delivers regulatory and technical training for regulatory staff and industry delegates as well as professional development for CASA’s 800 employees.
The Government and International Relations Branch is responsible for coordinating CASA’s relationships with government agencies, including the Minister’s office. The Branch is also the central coordination point for CASA’s strategic international engagement for policy, programs and International Civil Aviation Organization coordination.
Rob is a Member of the Royal Aeronautical Society (MRAeS) and is the ‘non-flying’ member of a syndicate in a 1977 Grumman Tiger.
