Update on proposal to build citybound bus bay onOld Northern Road

between Cross Street and Ackling Street, Baulkham Hills

You will be aware from our previous letter that Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) is planning to build a citybound bus bay on Old NorthernRoad between Cross Street and Ackling Street,Baulkham Hills. Thebus bay forms part of NSW Government efforts to improve bus reliability along strategic bus corridors linking major centres across the Sydney metropolitan area.

The new bus facility willimprove bus travel and safety by providing a safe area for citybound buses to pick up and set down passengers. The facilitywill also reduce traffic queues approaching the existing bus stop.

Now that detailed design of the facility has been completed, the proposal has been revised to include:

  • Demolition of the existing kerb and gutter and footpath;
  • Adjustments to street lighting,water, electricity and telecommunications services;
  • Construction ofthe bus bay, bus stop shelter and reinstatement of the kerb and gutter and footpath.
  • Relocation of the bus stop plinth.
  • Minor trimming of five trees impacting on power lines along Old Northern Road (Note: The electricity provider will be responsible for trimming the trees); and
  • The removal of one mature ironbark tree.

Construction of the bus baywill involve saw cutting, concreting, road paving and line marking. Some noise will be associated with this work, but every effort will be made to minimise impacts on adjacent properties.

To reduce impacts on traffic and to ensure the safety of road workers, the construction work will involve both day and night work.

Utility relocation work is scheduled to begin in May 2013 and be undertaken over six weeks. Construction work on the bus bay will then start. Construction activities are expected to take about eightweeks to complete. We will write to you again before work begins.
