Job Title:Project Coordinator

Salary:£26,860 –29,256, starting at £26,860

Hours36.25 per week

Purpose of post

To facilitate, promote and develop the independent work of the Patients Council by supporting members to:

a)promote and protect the independence ofthe Patients Council in representing the views of all REH patients and former patients.

b)be at the forefront of decision making

c)maintain and develop systems to collect qualitative and quantitative information for use in monitoring and other reports.

d)lobby and campaign for mental health service improvement.

Approach

It is essential that the Project Coordinator works with Patients Council members and the Management Committee at all times. S/he will reflect the views of members and the collective advocacy goals of the Patients Council. It will be very important that the Project Coordinator helps to make sure that the Patients Council is accessible and inclusive, and provides a safe environment where members can express their views and be heard.

Main responsibilities

  • to assist the Patients Council to further develop its collective advocacy role, which currently includes:

-planning and providing collective advocacy meetings on wards

-taking up issues raised by patients and confidentially presenting these issues at appropriate forums and meetings

-speaking up for members in the planning, arrangement and monitoring of services

  • to support Patients Council members to participate in local decision making structures
  • to ensure that information about the Patients Council is made available and fully accessible to members
  • to identify and arrange training for members, as required
  • to promote good communication with NHS Lothian and City of Edinburgh Council staff and managers
  • to promote good links and joint working with other advocacy services
  • to write reports and letters as required by the Patients Council, the management committee and commissioners
  • to provide members and management committee with the opportunity for feedback on performance and areas of development through regular events such as away days
  • to meet objectives, targets and quality standards agreed by the Patients Council including development of good practice policy and procedures
  • to support and supervise Patients Council staff

Learning and Development

You will be expected to participate in ongoing learning and development as identified through supervision and appraisal. You may also request specific training and AdvoCard will endeavour to meet such requests dependent on available resources.

Accountability

The Project Coordinator will be accountable to the Patients Council. The Patients Council host agency is provided by AdvoCard. The Patients Council works in partnership with AdvoCard and Edinburgh Carers Council to deliver mental health advocacy services in Edinburgh.AdvoCard provides supervision and line management for the Project Coordinator and is the employer of all Patients Council staff.

Supervision

External supervision, which is acceptable to both the Project Coordinator and the Patients Council, will be arranged for the Project Coordinator.
