Current News & Items of Interest:

Annual HOA Picnic

Just a quick reminder -- this year’s annual picnic will be held on September 13th with a rain date of September 14th. It will be on Don & Sandy Donato’s vacant lot at the corner of Bay Point and Pleasant Ave. Pollards will cater our picnic again. Menu will include; chicken, BBQ, potato salad, baked beans, coleslaw, rolls and hush puppies. Water and soft drinks will be provided, as well.

Annual HOA Meeting and Election of 2009 Board of Directors

The annual HOA meeting will be held on November 18th. At that meeting, the 2009 Board of Directors will be elected. If you are interested in providing some time and expertise to your association by serving on the Board or in another position, please contact our management company.

Pet Control

Most of our members are complying with HOA guidelines and City of Norfolk pet rules – remember the rules require dogs to be on a lease and droppings removed. Bay Breeze Point does not have a “pet patrol” to enforce HOA and Norfolk rules, it relies on its members for compliance. When others are observed not complying, it’s each member’s responsibility to diplomatically remind the person to please respect community and Norfolk rules, and if appropriate contact Norfolk Animal Control for pets running free/strays. Compliance with pet rules enhances our community and member safety.

Golf Carts

East Beach is a designated area that allows electric golf carts to be operated on City owned streets. Operators of these golf carts should be authorized holders of valid Virginia driver licenses; however, that is not always the case in our area. Please be careful when driving near a golf cart in our area – it may not be licensed driver behind the wheel.

Yard Sale

A special thanks to Vern and Margaret Aunchman for their efforts to involve the community in their recent yard sale. It appears that a lot of folks managed to meet the Norfolk requirements and participate even with the short notice. And, most noteworthy was the posting of signage and removal of signage – great job.

Board of Directors (BOD) Update:

The BOD held its August meeting on the 26th at our management company’s office @ 3149 Shore Drive, Suite B, Virginia Beach, VA 23451. Summary of meeting actions follow:

·  The Property Shoppe representatives were commended for their exceptional efforts to facilitate the transition from UPA support and ensure our accounting system was functional and accurate.

·  Use of the Oceanview Recreation Center for Board of Directors (BOD) meetings and annual homeowners meetings was discussed in detail. In sum: We have been using the recreation center for several years and have agreed to an annual fee for use of those facilities for our monthly meetings. That annual fee of $120 was paid annually at the beginning of each calendar year. Our 2008 annual fee was paid with no comment; however, in late March we were informed by the recreation center that our annual contract was no longer valid – we were not paying enough – we should be paying $40 plus per month vice $10 per month. No resolution was forthcoming with the recreation center; hence we have begun holding monthly BOD meetings at the management support company’s office. A Board rep did contact the Norfolk Mayor regarding this issue and the Mayor is working it. Update to follow.

·  Treasurer reported that the financial records have been transferred and the accounts checked. All HOA members have been notified of their status regarding fees credit or debit.

·  BOD continued their discussions regarding avenues to facilitate timely “Lawn Care” by all property owners. The BOD has attempted to use the City of Norfolk’s advertised support for abusers of lawn care, but the City has not yet responded to either our management company’s nor private HOA complaints/requests. Hence, the BOD is evaluating other more proactive avenues to ensure timely lawn care that will also offset some of the added costs incurred when pursuing property owners to fulfill their lawn care responsibilities.

·  Larry Peele provided an update on annual picnic preparations. Picnic is on track and should be fun for all HOA members. When you see Larry Peele or Joe Wilson, please thank them for all their efforts in putting together our picnic.

·  Discussions on possible annual HOA meeting agenda topics identified the need for further fact finding and analyses before finalizing an agenda.

·  BOD voted to change some of the monthly meeting dates for the remainder of 2008. Adjusted 2008 BOD meeting dates follow: September 22; October 13; November 18; and December 8. The annual HOA meeting will be on November 18th.

·  The next BOD meeting will be on September 22nd @ our management company’s office.

Social Club:

The Social Club did not meet during the month of August. We are looking forward to our annual picnic on Saturday, September 13th. Flyers will soon be distributed to all homeowners around September 1st. Our first Men's Golf outing was July 26th and attended by 5 men at the East Ocean View Golf Course. New friends were made and they look forward to the next outing and hopefully more golfers will attend! The Bunco Babes met at the home of Cindy Black on August 5 and had lots of fun! Our next Bunco activity will be held at Betty Casey’s (9649 Dolphin Run) on September 9th.

Our next Bay Breeze Point luncheon will be September 11th at Greenies at noon and following that, the Social Club will meet for discussions on future fun activities for our neighborhood.

Volunteers Needed:

There are still opportunities to serve your community. More specifically,

·  The BOD needs volunteers to serve on the Board, and

·  The HOA needs help maintaining and updating our website as well as drafting articles of interest and compiling our newsletters.

If you can spare a few hours to support your community, please contact any of the 2008 Board members.
