HYMN SING SUNDAY
OnSunday August 4th we will have a very special worship service featuring some of our favorite hymns. We need you to tell us what those hymns are! Please let us know your favorite hymns by sending an e-mail to r writing them down and giving them to Larry Mentzer, Cheryl Tyler or dropping them by the church office. Then be sure to join us onAugust 4th as we sing together our favorites!
ADVENT DEVOTIONAL GUIDES
This coming Advent Christ Our King is going to produce our own Advent Devotional Guide written by members of our church. We are looking for writers to assist. If you would be interested in contributing one or two devotionals to the guide, please e-mail Donna in the church office (). We will put your name on the list and later this summer give you the specifications for the devotionals (scripture, word count, etc.) We can use youth writers as well!
LOCAL MISSIONS SUNDAY
Today we welcome representatives from Anna's House, Harford Family House, Homecoming Project, Mann House, Martha's Place, and SARC. During coffee fellowship, we are invitedto speak with them at their table displays in the Narthex to learn about the work they do and how we mightlend supportto them.
Abrochure containing a description of each of these missionsis included in the bulletin. Additional copies are available at the Welcome Desk as well. We will also have an opportunity to contribute to these local missions, any oneor all of them, with a donation to COK, notation: Local Missions.
The Welcome One Homeless Shelter is not included in this offering because as a founding church we commit to a substantial financial contribution to FCCAU from the missions budget. We are having this local missions’ fundraiser to supplement this year’s mission budget.
During our service a nursery with professional care givers is pro vided for our youngest children just off the Narthex in the Education Building. A beeper system is available should you need to be called to check on your child. Please see an usher or greeter for directions to the nursery. Should you need to leave the worship service with your child, there is a quiet room off the Narthex where you can see and hear the service.
Except for the first Sunday of the month, Children’s Church is available during worship for children ages 4 through the second grade. After the “Children’s Parable”, children are led from the sanctuary to Sunday School Classroom 3 (lower level, yellow room) to enjoy engaging activities for the remainder of the worship hour. Instead of attending Children’s Church, children may choose to sit quietly with their parents as worship continues.

Psalm 138 (NLT)
1
L: I give you thanks, OLord, with all my heart; I will sing
your praises before the gods.
P: I bow before your holy Temple as I worship. I praise your
name for your unfailing love and faithfulness.
L: As soon as I pray, you answer me; you encourage me by
giving me strength.
P: Every king in all the earth will thank you,Lord, for all of
them will hear your words.
L: Yes, they will sing about theLord’s ways, for the glory of
theLordis very great.
P: Though theLordis great, he cares for the humble, but he
keeps his distance from the proud.
L: Though I am surrounded by troubles, you will protect me
from the anger of my enemies. You reach out your hand,
and the power of your right hand saves me.
P: TheLordwill work out his plans for my life—for your
faithful love, OLord, endures forever.

PRAYERS OF ADORATION & THANKSGIVING
Rev. H. James Riddell
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Merciful God,
you pardon all who truly repent and turn to you.
We humbly confess our sins and ask your mercy.
We have not loved you with a pure heart,
nor have we loved our neighbor as ourselves.
We have not done justice, loved kindness,
or walked humbly with you, our God.
Have mercy on us, O God, in your loving-kindness.
In your great compassion,
cleanse us from our sin.
Create in us a clean heart, O God,
and renew a right spirit within us.
Do not cast us from your presence,
or take your Holy Spirit from us.
Restore to us the joy of your salvation
and sustain us with your bountiful Spirit. AMEN
ASSURANCE OF PARDON
*GLORIA PATRI 805
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world
without end. Amen
*APOSTLES CREED
I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth;
And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord:
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried;
He descended into hell. The third day he rose from the dead;
he ascended into heaven and sitteth on the right hand of God
the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in
Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil:
for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen
