SAIL AMBASSADOR POSITION DESCRIPTION

Summer Academy to Inspire Learning (SAIL) Program

Hours:Mandatory Training: TBA

Academic school year (8 months) / 10 - 15 hours/week

Hourly Wage:$11.00 per hour

Job Description: Position will involve assisting the SAIL program in local high schools and middle schools with college preparatory activities as well as coordinating college student volunteers.

70% Student Support

  • One on one mentoring high school students (SAIL priority)
  • Assist with drop-in student needs
  • Tracking SAIL student progress
  • Keeping the SAIL and school informed of any concerns
  • Group Sessions to be developed (after school, weekly, club)

20% Outreach Support

  • Classroom presentations (college preparatory & SAIL program material)
  • Assist teachers/staff with college preparatory classroom activities
  • SAIL program awareness/recruitment in schools
  • Event planning and set up for college preparatory events
  • Assisting coordination of volunteers for mentoring program

10% Administrative support for SAIL and schools

  • Light office duties: phone, data entry, web searches
  • Possible website management
  • Completing tasks as assigned

Qualifications:Work well with high school students, be a team player – able to provide positive role modeling. Applicant must be detail-oriented, organized, and able to follow school and University rules. Reliable, punctual, and professional. Applicants must provide proof of enrollment in college.

Experience working with teenagers, outgoing, independent, and able to take initiative. Experience facilitating activities, flexible, and transitioning schedules. Calm under stress. Preference for students eligible for work study.
