BERTIE COUNTY DISASTER RECOVERY CENTER EXTENDED TO MAY 26
RALEIGH, N.C. – Bertie County’s Disaster Recovery will remain open until 5 p.m. Thursday, May 26. It will not close on Saturday, May 21, as previously announced.
Those whose homes or businesses were affected by the April 16 storms and tornadoes can continue to get in-person help at the center daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. The center is closed on Sunday and will close permanently at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 26.

“Bertie County was hit hard and we need to make sure everyone who needs in-person help gets that help,” said Doug Hoell the state’s Director of Emergency Management. “But as a reminder, FEMA’s phone helpline can also help anyone with problems or questions.”
Representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, North Carolina Emergency Management, the U.S. Small Business Administration and other federal and state agencies are available to explain assistance programs and help survivors apply for disaster aid.
“Go to the recovery center or pick up the phone and call,” Hoell said. “No one can do it for you.”
The deadline to apply is June 20.
Disaster survivors can call 800-621-FEMA (3362) to register for disaster assistance, check application status and update contact or insurance company information. A Federal Emergency Management Agency representative is available at the toll-free number from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week. Callers with speech or hearing disabilities may call TTY 800-462-7585. Help is available in most languages.
Applicants can also register online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or with a web-enabled mobile device smartphone. Visit m.fema.gov and follow the link to “apply online for federal assistance.”

FEMA’s temporary housing assistance and grants for medical and dental expenses, and funeral and burial expenses do not require individuals to apply for an SBA loan. However, applicants who receive SBA loan applications must submit them to SBA loan officers to be eligible for assistance that covers personal property, vehicle repair or replacement, and moving and storage expenses.
