God’s Pro-Life Testimony in Christ
God’sSonwastherewhenhumanlifewasfirstcreated:
John1:3"Throughhimallthingsweremade"
Colossians1:16"By him all things were created" .
Godcreatedourfirstparentstolive.Hecreatedtheminhisownimage,andsotheyknewhowtolive.He commanded and enabled them to continue the work of creating human life:
Genesis1:28"God blessed them and said to them, ’Befruitfulandincreaseinnumber...’"
InthebeginningGodwaspro-life.
Godcreatedthemtolive.TheydiedwhentheydisobeyedtheonlycommandmentGodhadgiventhem. They died, in the sense that by their disobedience they had cut themselves off from the Source of life.
Theydiedspirituallyanditwasonlyamatteroftimebeforetheirsoulsandbodieswouldbeseparatedin physicaldeath.Theydied,andwithoutGod’sinterventiontheywoulddieeternally,existforeverinmiseryandpainandregret.
Godintervened.HepromisedtosendadescendantofEvewhowouldcrushtheTempter’spowerandrescueherandAdamandalltheirdescendantsfromdeath.Afterthefall,Godwasstillpro-life.
God kept his promise. God’s Son came to redeem what he had created. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, developed in his mother’s womb, was born. He grew up and became a man. he lived the perfect life of loving obedience to his Father and love for all mankind, even his enemies. He willingly laid down hislifeastheperfectsacrificeforthesinsoftheworld.Hedidit,"sothatbyhisdeathhemightdestroy himwhoholdsthepowerofdeath--thatis,thedevil--and free those who all their lives were held in slaverybytheirfearofdeath"(Hebrews2:14,15).EspeciallyatGolgotha,Godwaspro-life.
GodraisedJesusfromthedead.Becausehelives,whoeverbelievesinhimhaseternallife.Thatis God’spro-lifetestimonyinChrist.
Adam was created in God’simageandlikeness,holyandimmortal.Adam’ssonswerecreatedinAdam’simage,sinfulandmortal(Genesis5:3).YouandI,as Adam’schildren,mustconfessasDaviddid:"SurelyIwassinfulatbirth,sinfulfromthetimemymotherconceivedme"(Psalm51:5).Itisnotour naturetolettheGodwhogiveslifebeinthecenterofourlives.Itisournaturetowanttobegods, controlling our own destiny, controlling those around us. That is the way that leads to death. What if someone who didn’t want to be bothered by your existence had decided to play God and snuff out yourlifeinanabortionclinic?Whatifsomeonehadleftyouwithoutnourishmentandcareafteryouwere born?Nobaptism,notrainingin God’s Word, no knowledge of Jesus Christ, no eternal life by faith inhimwhomGodhassent.
ThosewhoareinChristarealsopro-life.TheywanttoimitatetheirFatherinheavenbyvaluingand protectingandpreservinglife.Notonlytheunbornbutalsothenewborn.Notonlytheyoungbutalsothe old. Not only the healthy and strong but also those who need special help and care. There is no other way theycanbe,fortheyhaveheardGod’spro-lifetestimonyinChrist.
