Juvenile and Novice Success for Dunleer AC
Both Novice Titles Go to Dunleer Athletic Club at Meadowview
The Louth Novice and Juvenile Championships held at Meadowview Drogheda on Sunday last produced two new Louth Novice Champions for Dunleer AC in Fintan Reilly, winner of the Novice Men 6km and Jacqueline Matthews, winner of the Novice Ladies 3km. Fintan led the Dunleer AC men’s team home to the silver medals, the team being Fintan Reilly, Feargal Barnes, Garrett Murray, David Hanlon, John Holmes and Ian Carroll. The ladies brought home the team bronze with Jacqueline Matthews, Miriam Howard and Sandra Fox all running very well.
The juvenile events proved very exciting with Louth Cross Country Championship titles for 2010 going to Dunleer AC athletes Liam Connaughton under 12, Aaron Hanlon under 16 and Tadgh Berkery under 18. Silver individual medals went to Conor Matthews under 10, Aonghus Meehan under 16, Sam Bingham under 18, while bronze individual medals went to Emma Cheshire under 12, Gary Campbell under 14, Louise Hynes under 18 and Justin Ferris under 18.
The under 10 girls team finished 4th with Erin Orr leading the girls home, followed by Regan Murphy, Ruth and Grace Flanagan, Ellen Butterly. The Dunleer AC girls under 12 2,000metres had two teams finishing 1st and 5th in the team event, with Emma Cheshire, Seaghna Campbell, Seoda Matthews, Ellen Campbell, Aoife Howard, Caoimhe Murphy, Ellen Murray, Jill Connolly and Aideen O Rourke all doing their Club proud. The girls under 14 3,000 metre race had Niamh Connaughton in flying form finishing in 6th place. Meanwhile Kirsty Mc Donnell ran a fine 4,000 metre race under 16, with Louise Hynes and Catherine Byrne competing over the 5,000 metre course.
The Dunleer AC boys under 10 team finished as silver medallists with Conor Matthews, Mark Byrne, Ronan Sands, T.J. Doheny, Ruairi Hanlon, Harry Boylan, Anthony Dillon, Vincent Malone and Cathal Reynolds. The Boys under 12 team were Liam Connaughton 1st, Kevin Ledwith 5th and Shane Mc Cann 6th, while the boys under 14 featured Gary Campbell 3rd, Jack Boylan 8th and Rory Murphy 9th, Aaron Hanlon 1stunder 16 and Aonghus Meehan 2nd. Dunleer AC had a runaway victory in the boys under 18 filling the first 4 individual places, with Tadgh Berkery 1st, Sam Bingham 2nd, Justin Ferris 3rd and Sean Mc Keever 4th.
The under 8’s had non Championship races and Dunleer AC fielded super teams in both and can be very proud of all participants, with the girls under 8 led home by Grace Fitzpatrick and Laura Reilly. The boys under 8 were led home by Sean Reynolds Emmet Murray and Oisin Cheshire.
