Greetings Henderson Parents and Guardians!

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday break and has had a good start to the New Year! First off, I want to personally thank all the parents and volunteers who assisted with our class winter/holiday parties. The parties were a huge hit and students really enjoyed themselves! These were a great way to send our kids off to a well deserved break. Thank you again for all your time and generosity, it is truly appreciated.

As we’ve been talking about for the last few months our teaching and staff are working hard to become a “Leader in Me” School. This quarter we are focusing on Habit 3: Putting First Things First!

I think you’ll really enjoy this habit and we would truly appreciate your support in helping your children understand just how important it is to “Put First Things First”!

Our new PTO meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, January 16th at Dion’s Pizza from 5:00-8:00 p.m.

Please join me and the PTO at Dion’s pizza. The PTO will go over upcoming events. I will also be available to discuss the possibility of moving to a 4 –day school week. And one more benefit of our night at Dion’s Pizza is that a portion of the proceeds will go to benefit our district and our school!

I know there are a lot of questions on the subject of a possible four-day school week. Here is our District’s message about what this means and why we’re looking at this option:

Why is 27J Schools considering a four-day student contact week?

27J Schools is considering a four-day student contact week for the following reasons:

Answer:

a.  To create a schedule that acts as an enticement for recruiting and retaining quality teachers;

b.  To create a schedule that meets 27J Schools’ teaching and learning needs yet creates budget efficiencies that allow for the reallocation of resources to items more critical to our primary purpose of ensuring that all students have the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed for present and future competence and success;

c.  To reorganize and recreate staff development that allows 27J Schools to achieve high efficiencies in educating our students;

d.  To create a school calendar that elevates instructional time and minimizes disruptions to school staff; and

e.  To achieve these objectives through a schedule that is clean, clear and concise, making it less difficult for families to manage.

Whether we go with a new four-day schedule or keep or current schedule, believe it or not, or annual Open Enrollment is happing NOW! For those of you with kids in our building, thank you for picking Henderson! We’ve seen some fantastic growth in the past year and are looking to keep on making Henderson THE school to be at in the coming years! And if your friends and neighbors are not yet part of the Henderson family, please tell them we’d love to have them as part of our team next year!

Our Mission is to provide ample opportunities for each and every one of our students to explore, wonder, growth and embrace challenge. Based on this mission we encourage all students to find their voice and actively engage in the learning process.

Did you know:

-  Henderson will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year.

-  Based off our state scores we are identified as a “Performing School.”

-  Students in 1-5th engage in Genius hour weekly

-  We are in the process of being a “Leader in Me school.” This mean our students will practice the 7 habits, originally identified in Sean Covey’s book, “The 7 habits of Highly Effective People.”

-  We have an active and amazing PTO that works together to support and pay for field trips, fun school activities, and more.

-  Our Dean of students, Britt Travis, runs a monthly parent TEAM time This is a time to strengthen the home-school connection.

-  Henderson students and staff gather together monthly to celebrate our student’s success.

So… please make sure you and all your friends and neighbors complete your paperwork!

How can you help your child LOVE math?

All our students in K through 5th grade have a Moby Max account that makes learning math fun! Students can access Moby Max from any computer or phone. Moby Max has multiple fun math games and practice problems designed to first meet students at their level and then slowly start to challenge them to new levels of success. This is a wonderful tool to use nightly. Your child knows their sign in. If they forgot, please ask your child’s teacher.

Parent TEAM time

Based on a number of parent responses, we have moved Parent TEAM time. This is a time to strengthen the school – home connection. The Dean of Students and guest speakers provide parents with “tools” to build academic success. Our next meeting will be on January 31st from 3:45-4:15.
