Project Engineer
New-Indy, Oxnard LLC is a leading independent manufacturer and marketer of corrugated containerboard paper. Mill seeking qualified candidate for the position of Project Engineer at the paper mill located in Oxnard, CA. The overall responsibility of the position is to support Safety, Environmental and Production goals.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for performing basic engineering calculations investigations and tasks as assigned.
- Collaborates with more experienced engineers to provide follow-up and engineering assistance on defined problems.
- Prepares or assists in preparing reports, graphs, planning layouts, and summaries designed to communicate project progress or results
- Assists in the implementation of safety process, procedural, or physical/equipment changes to improve safety and environmental compliance.
- Lead by example and encourage employee’s adherence to the mill safety and environmental policies.
- Support the HR department during entry level Engineer recruitment.
- Coordinates work within the scope of standard Capital or Major Repair and Maintenance projects and ensures that objectives are met in an optimum manner and with maximum financial efficiency.
- Develop designs and conduct engineering for standard projects including the use of ACAD, FEA and other design and engineering software.
- Assists with coordination with contracted engineers and construction supervisors and crews.
- Works independently on standard assignments or forms project teams as needed depending on the project scope.
- Assists with major repairs and upgrades for mill infrastructure, air, water, gas, chemical and fire systems.
- Assist Maintenance department on standard repairs requiring Engineering or design support.
- Trained in the application of continuous improvement techniques.
- Trained as a member of the Operations/BOD call team or as aMaintenance call team member.
- Provide Engineering support for all Mill Departments to optimize performance, increase production efficiency, improve product quality, improve environmental compliance margins, and increase process and equipment reliability.
- Use Engineering skills to identify root causes of failures (RCFA) and design and implement solutions, including process design changes.
- Develop new procedures to facilitate proper process or equipment operation after modification or upgrades.
- Provide initial training to mill supervisors (train the trainer) on new equipment or modifications.
- Use various software programs and production databases to document and determine effective process operation and timing of equipment maintenance/upgrades.
- Execute mill, departmental and personal projects and initiatives to improve safety, reduce costs, minimize waste and improve performance.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Required Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Plus 1-2 years manufacturing experience (internship) in heavy industry
- Preferred experience in paper mill or comparable
