Customised IT link with DPD Cloud: interfaces for Odooand Magento simplify parcel shipping

With DPD Cloud customers and software developers can integrate parcel shipping with DPD into their own systems on an open-source or commercial basis

Software supplier VNC has developed the DPD Connector, which enables the cloud-based ERP system Odoo to implement automated shipping operations

An interface for convenient shipping management is now also available for the Magento shop system

Aschaffenburg, 3July 2014 – With DPD Cloud international parcel and express service provider DPD is now offering new possibilities of integrating parcel shipping operations with DPD into other IT systems in a simple and autonomous way.A convenient application for the use of DPD Cloud has now been made available by VNC (Virtual Network Consult), a leading supplier of commercial open-source and open-cloud solutions. The new DPD Connector enables more than 2 million users to take advantage of automated shipment processing directly in the Odoo business software package.

"With DPD Cloud we are giving developers working on behalf of customers and service providers the resources they need to embed parcel shipping with DPD conveniently within their own systems and solutions", explains Michael Knaupe, Director B2C Products & Services at DPD in Germany. "In the same way as the developers of apps need to have access to the operating systems of smartphones, many providers require basic interfaces to the DPD IT system and this is what DPD Cloud offers."

The DPD Connectordeveloped byVNC for Odoo users

Odoo, a cloud-based software package for enterprise resource planning (ERP), is a good example of the use of DPD Cloud. More than 2 million companies and other users are already applying Odoo for the purpose of boosting their sales figures, organising their business processes and providing staff with efficient working resources. A large number of optional modules are available for Odoo, for example for the purpose of managing goods flows and logistics. Thanks to the DPD Connector provided by VNC itis now possible to order parcel pickups or print parcel labels directly in Odoo. Bernd Rodler, Chairman of the Board of VNC AG, explains: "We see great potential in our cooperation with parcel service provider DPD. We are convinced that a large number of companies and organisations will receive significant benefits from electronic shipment processing within Odoo, the leading-edge open-source ERP system."

Customers using the VNC Connector simply need a customer account with DPD and authorisation to access DPD's web services. With this customer data the VNC DPD Connector is then able to manage parcel pickups and the printing of labels without the involvement of other programmes, which significantly shortens processing times for users. As a result outgoing goods can be planned and organised efficiently using the VNC DPD Connector. Everything which is sent by parcel using DPD's services can also be ordered via the VNC DPD Connector. The user enters the data, gives instructions for the pickup and prints out the label which has been ordered using the VNC DPD Connector. Depending on the agreement which has been made payment is then implemented to DPD direct.

Simplified parcel shipping for all Magentousers

A shipping interface for Magento, one of the world's leading online shops systems, is now also available. This, too, is based on DPD Cloud and means that Magento users can manage the flows of their goods within the shop software itself and no longer need to switch to a different platform for their shipping operations. The customer data which is entered when a purchase is made from the online shop is automatically transferred to the shipping management system. The entire shipping process can be managed directly in Magento, from parcel label printing via data updates and an overview of orders right across to seamless shipment tracking. This of course makes parcel shipping with DPD even more efficient and convenient than before.
