General Meeting Minutes
September 8, 2015
Meeting called to order at 9:08 a.m.
Principal’s Report- Jennifer Bennett
· Welcome to the 2015/2016 school year
· Thank you for a warm welcome from TC community
· Introduce herself
o Passion for children and learning
o 15 years of experience in education in Monroe Schools, 5 years as administrator
· New 3rd/4th combination class created over labor day weekend to accommodate new students
Superintendent’s Report- Mary Kay Gallagher
· Celebrating NPS 150 years
· Summer Accomplishments
o Building improvements throughout district
o Teacher training and unit design
o 30 new teachers and 3 new administrators hired
· Enrollment
o Budget based on 40 student projected decline, Actual 150 student increase in K-12
· 3rd/4th Combination class added at Thornton Creek over Labor Day weekend
o 5 new enrollments after open house, needed to add class to lower class size
o Teacher will be Ms. Kalasho
o Many thanks to Mrs. Bennett and teachers who helped over the weekend
· NPS Board of Education will be appointing replacement for outgoing board member mid-term, 10 volunteers have stepped forward and will be interviewed for the position
President’s Report-Lori Leneschmidt
· Box Tops
o Drop of in “minion” in front hallway, label Ziploc with name and teacher
o Contest between classes for bringing in most, top class rewarded
· Kroger Community Rewards-sign up to benefit TC
· Thornton Creek PTA website- Thorntoncreekpta.org
o Look for forms, updated calendar
· Gator Gazette will include last page with most recent events and contact info for event
· Gator Gala- November 6, 2015
o In need of volunteers, look for signup genius
Treasurer’s Report-Cinzia Miksitz
· Motion made to accept final financial statement from 2014-2015 school year
o Motion to accept: Stacy Stover, Motion seconded: Angela Viola
o Motion Approved
· Motion to approve final budget for 2015-2016 school year
o Motion to accept: Rachel Mastrioanni, Motion seconded: Kathy Giannotta
o Motion approved
· September Financials
o Spiritwear sales from open house
Membership Report-Michelle Mack
· Membership form to go home first day in Monday envelope
o Return form with payment and will receive email from Myschoolanywhere to verify information for directory
o This year directory will be an online directory
o PTA membership required for access to directory
o Change is good!
Fundraising Report-Jennifer Wilbanks
· Will receive letter and envelope in October asking for donation for PTA
o Recommened donation $60
o Only fundraiser for year
Committee Report-After School Science- Bryan Snook
· Classes offered for K-1 and 2-5
o New topics this year
o 3:45-5 p.m., $18 per class
o Volunteers needed, receive discount
o New this year, online registration and payment, no paper sent home, see gator gazette
o Nutsaboutscience.com to signup, preferred enrollment to online signup
Committee Report-Birthday Lunch- Kari Corrington
· Donations accepted to reserve date to eat lunch with child on their birthday
o One upper el and one lower el student per day
· Donations go toward maintaining and adding to our playground
Committee Report-Credit Union- Lisa McCausland
· 4th grade parent volunteers needed to run program throughout the year
Special Report-Christy Kondogiani
· Looking for volunteers to work with a program called Bridgepointe
· Bridgepointe is a continuation of relationship between Neinas Elementary School in Southwest Detroit and TC
· Volunteers to spend time at Neinas working with students
