A. COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course describes the concept of prose fiction; understanding aspects about prose fiction, i.e. plot, character, setting, theme, point of view,; appreciating English prose and applying approaches used in analysis.
B. THE COURSE OBJECTIVE
This course is aimed at providing the students with the theoretical and practical knowledge of English prose fiction.
C. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVES/ SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVES:
- By the end of the course, the students are expected to explain the nature of prose fiction.
- By the end of the meeting the students are expected to be able to define prose fiction using their own words.
- By the end of meeting students are expected to explain the kinds of prose fiction.
- By the end of the course, the students are expected to explain the elements of prose, i.e. plot, character, setting, theme, and point of view.
- By the end of meeting the students are expected to be able to analyze English prose fiction.
D. APPROACHES
This course provides students with the theoretical knowledge of prose fiction and skill to analyze English prose fiction. Therefore, to instruct students with theoretical knowledge I will apply topic approach.
The students will apply the theoretical knowledge in analyzing and reading prose fiction. Analyzing and reading prose fiction are skill aspects of this course; hence I will also apply skill approach. However to provide students with these skills, they must do analyzing and reading prose fiction activities. Therefore I have to apply another approach, i.e. activity approach.

E. THE METHOD
The methods applied in the instructional activity are the following:
- Lecturing. In lecturing the instructor will explain the theory prose fiction.
- Giving task. The students will be given the task of analyzing and reading prose fiction. The task is the mean of the students to apply the theoretical knowledge of prose fiction.
- Discussion. Discussion is used to sharpen the students understanding of the theory. It is also the forum of the students to share their analysis result.
G. STUDENTS’ REQUIREMENTS
1. Students are required to:
- Attendthe meeting. They must attend at least 80 % of the meeting.
- Be active in the classroom activities
- Write and present paper.
2. Grades
Grades are based on:
- Activity in class (10%)
- Assignments (20%). The students should summit three papers.
- Mid-term test (30%)
- Final test (40%)
