MINUTES OF EMPLOYMENT AND APPEALS COMMITTEE MEETING – 14TH NOVEMBER 2005

1. DECLARATIONS OF INTEREST

There were no declarations of interest on this occasion.

2. APPEAL AGAINST DISMISSAL

The Committee considered a request for a review of the Council’s decision to dismiss an employee.

The Appellant was in attendance, and represented by Ms N Brown of UNISON.

Mr P Jefferson, Mr P Lucas and Ms C Swift were in attendance on behalf of the Authority, for whom Ms L Jordan and Mr R Robinson appeared as a witness. Mr D Goodall, observed by Ms B Gribbon, was in attendance to advise the Committee on matters of policy and procedure only. Mr Goodall and Ms Gribbon had not been involved in any decisions previously taken relating to this matter.

The Committee considered only those allegations against the Appellant which were upheld at a disciplinary hearing held on 14th September 2005, and did not consider those allegations which were not.

Resolved: That the Committee uphold all the decisions taken by the Disciplinary Panel at the Disciplinary Hearing held on 14th September 2005. The appeal was not upheld and the disciplinary action should stand and be regarded as confirmed. The full reasons for the decision would be detailed in a letter to be despatched to the Appellant within five working days.

Resolved: To note the date of the next meeting as Monday 21st November 2005, 10:00, in Committee Room A of the Town Hall.
