PASTOR’S MESSAGE

Dear Friends,

I pray that you will have a happy and joyous Easter. It is so good to see so many of our old friends and inactive parishioners today. You are such an important part of our parish family; we pray every day for you, our absent brethren, that the love of Jesus will touch your hearts and return you to the practice of your Catholic Faith.

You also may have heard that this year’s Catholic Charities Appeal is now in overtime. The Diocese is about 10% short of the goal. Our Parish is still about $20,000.00 short of our Goal. So if you have not donated yet, it is not too late. You can drop your donation in the regular collection indicating that is it for Catholic Charities or you can mail your donation directly to Catholic Charities at 525 Washington Street, Buffalo, New York 14203. Please indicate that you are a parishioner at Our Lady of Peace in Clarence and we will receive credit for your donation...

There are so many people to thank around here for making the Holy Week Triduum and Easter Celebrations so meaningful, prayerful and beautiful. The choirs had been practicing and planning for weeks and it showed. Trudy Wargo and the traditional choir were here for all the Triduum Liturgies and on Easter Sunday. Our folk choir, under the direction of Ruth Nawotniak, Tom McGinley, and John Brinkman, sounded angelic on Easter Sunday. The Altar Servers did a great job and were very attentive to all the details of the liturgies. Our Parish staff was busy all week helping with decorations, cleaning, and keeping me from getting in their way. Plus doing all the things they do during a normal week.

As your know, these past two years the Northern Erie Vicariate [that includes our parish] has been meeting and discussing what actions we need to take in order to address the shift in the Catholic population and the declining number of priests to staff parishes. Our recommendations were sent to the Commission on The Journey in Faith and Grace. The Commission reviewed our recommendations and made some adjustments. The Commission has sent the following recommendations to Bishop Kmiec for his final decision:

  • The following parishes should remain single parishes:

St. Mary’s [Swormville]

Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary [Harris Hill]

  • Our Lady of Peace in Clarence and St. Teresa’s in Akron should remain single parishes for the time being. They should however, begin to collaborate ministerially in view of the fact that they may need to share a priest sometime in the future.
  • St. Augustine’s in Clarence Center and Good Shepherd Church in Pendleton should merge to form one single parish, possibly with a new name but using both church sites. The primary site and pastor’s residence should be in Pendleton.

Bishop Kmiec will make the final decision after reviewing these recommendations. More than likely this will occur sometime in June. So stay tuned!

Have a blessed week,

Fr. Tom

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

The Eucharist is our Risen Lord, where all the power of His Resurrection flows out to all

who come into His Eucharistic Presence, increasing within us His very image and likeness.

Jesus is alive today in the Blessed Sacrament calling us to Himself.

We currently have a need for adorers from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

“Let us sacrifice a little of our time to please our Lord, let us put our faith in him…”

“for nothing is impossible with God”…Luke 1:37.

Please join us for Eucharistic Adoration every Wednesday from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm

(please note our new closing time) in the parish center.

(When the Clarence Schools are closed due to weather, there will be NO Adoration)

Do you have a love of music? Are you interested in joining our Choir? We’re looking for choir members to join us at the 4:30 pm Saturday Mass and/or at the 8:00 am Sunday Mass. If you are interested in joining our parish music ministry, please call Trudy Wargo at 759-8181.

CATHOLIC CHARITIES APPEAL 2008

If you haven’t already, please consider making a pledge or place your contribution in an envelope marked Catholic Charities Appeal 2008 in the collection. Every dollar counts and helps to ultimately provide numerous outcome-driven programs for more than 160,000 children, adults, families and seniors in need across Western New York. Thank you!

ANNUAL LENTEN COLLECTION FOR NICARAGUA

Our Lenten collection for Nicaragua concludes this weekend. If you would still like to donate, just drop your Lenten collection envelope in the collection basket as soon as possible. To date we have collected $6,550.00.

LITURGY OF THE WORD

Please note that the Liturgy of the Word Ministry during the 10:00 am Mass is for children 7 and 8 years of age. Kindly do not send your child to attend this if they are younger. The teachers involved with this ministry are limited with time before taking them back to church. Many of the children are asking to use the bathroom and then the purpose of this important ministry is not being met.

There is a Pre-K class for 5 year olds that is held downstairs in the parish center during the 10:00 Mass. Hopefully this will be of help to you if you wish.

Thank you for your cooperation,

Sister Barbara Ann
