Perry Lane Art Project
Expression of Interest – Call Out
Public Art Project
Perry Lane, Paddington
Perry Lane Art Project seeks Expressions of Interest from artists to develop a high quality temporary work of public art for the Western wall of Perry Lane, Paddington. The artwork will contribute to the vision of making the laneway a destination of culture and vibrancy. Exploring the intersection between public art and urban growth the project will provide a platform for creative voices and a professional opportunity for young and emerging artists to be part of a visible presence of innovation and creativity whilst activating this public space.
The Perry Lane Project is a placemaking initiative aimed at contributing to the revitalisation of Oxford Street, Paddington as a vital public destination.
Location:
The project site is the exterior wall of the building on the Western side of Perry Lane. The laneway runs between Oxford and Underwood Streets and is open to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic. It is primarily used as a thoroughfare for locals and residents.
It is envisaged that a sum of two works will be commissioned for the wall, one being approximately a metre squared closer to Oxford Street and the other 4 x 3metres in the larger section of wall (as shown). All measurements are flexible and open to discussion pending final artwork.
Tone:
The artwork is envisaged as primarily a painted wall mural that should be imaginative, vibrant, innovative and site-responsive. It should also be unexpected or surprising and have the ability to appeal to a broad audience. The primary experience of the artworks will be from pedestrians, local residents and consumers from surrounding businesses. The temporary artwork will be on display for an estimated six months and then replaced by another on a biannual basis.
To be considered for this project artists should submit the following:
* A CV of no more than two pages
* Images of previous work, up to 10 images clearly labelled with your Surname_Title_Medium_Date
* A brief written response to the project opportunity
*A sketch of the artwork(s) placed on the wall elevation (jpg of wall elevation available if required – please email request to perrylaneartproject @gmail.com)
*A colour concept sketch for artwork proposed for the mural(s)
*Please include full name and contact details including daytime phone number and email address.
Assessment Criteria:
The vision of the Perry Lane Art Project is to create a space for public art of a high quality that is both engaging and accessible to the community it occupies. It is hoped that it will provide moments of slowness, surprise and discovery, whilst celebrating culture, community and creativity.
