NSW AMBULANCE To HOST COMMUNITY consultation MEETINGS

Council strongly encourages community members to attend one of two Community Consultation meetings set to be held by NSW Ambulance in Coolamon and Ardlethan in early December.

The purpose of the Community Consultation sessions is to provide residents with the opportunity to hear from NSW Ambulance about potential options for future paramedic coverage models available to our region. It will also allow residents the opportunity to provide feedback and express any concerns.

All members of the public are invited by NSW Ambulance to attend either of the following meetings:

  • Coolamon Sports Club – 2.00pm, Tuesday 9th December
  • Ardlethan Memorial Hall at 2.00pm on Wednesday 10th December.

The Community Consultation sessions will form the basis of the NSW Ambulance report that will be provided to the NSW Health Minister about the emergency health services required and being provided in Coolamon and Ardlethan.

Council would encourage community members to attend these meetings as they provide an important opportunity for the residents of our Shire to help shape the future of NSW Ambulance services provided in our region.

The consumption of alcohol will be permitted up until 11.00pm on Tuesday, 31st December for that night only.

SWIMMING POOL SAFETY

With summer quickly approaching it is important to remember the safety of children, particularly around swimming pools. Council reminds all pool owners of the importance of an effective barrier between the swimming pool and the rest of the property. Whilst supervision is the most effective tool, a compliant swimming pool fence significantly reduces the chance of childhood drowning. Please check your fence to ensure that it meets the minimum standard. Should you require more information in regard to this matter please contact Council on 69301800.

The safety of our children is paramount.

What’s happening at the

Coolamon Shire Library

Our “Food for Fines” Campaign has started again at the Coolamon Library. This is a great opportunity to clear all outstanding fines by donating non-perishable food in lieu of money. All collected food will be donated to St Vincent de Paul in Coolamon. They will then distribute the food to our local families within our Shire.

The Library will be participating in a “Day of Action” scheduled for the Friday, 5th December. This campaign is to aid the NSW Libraries Australia Funding Campaign. Throughout the year the Library collected signatures for our petition in order to keep our library funding sustainable. The Library will be having a display on “Love your Library” – we encourage our community to support this day by visiting the Library.

Storytime dates for the month of December are:

Friday, 5th theme “Love and Cuddles” @ 10.30am and then our final storytime for the year will be held on

Friday 12th December. A small Christmas party will follow and a very special guest will be appearing. Hope everyone can join us for this special occasion.

Neighbourhood Safer Places

Neighbourhood Safer Places are a place of last resort during a bush fire emergency.

They are to be used when all other options in your Bush Fire Survival Plan can't be put into action safely.

You should be aware of any Neighbourhood Safer Places in your area, and note them in your Bush Fire Survival Plan before a bush fire occurs. You should also know how to get there, as well as alternate routes in case the road is blocked or too dangerous to drive on.

Not all areas will have a Neighbourhood Safer Place. If there is no Neighbourhood Safer Place in your area, you should identify other safer locations you can go to as a last resort. This might include a nearby home which is well prepared, a shopping centre or oval which is well away from the bush.

A Neighbourhood Safer Place is designed as a Place of Last Resort in bush fire emergencies only. Please note that travelling to or sheltering at a Neighbourhood Safer Place does not guarantee your safety.

Remember:

Your safest option will always be to leave early.

People with special needs, such as the elderly and people with a disability, should always leave before the threat of bush fire.

If it is unsafe to leave the area or stay and defend your property, and the path is clear, you should move to your pre-identified Neighbourhood Safer Place, or other safer location, prior to the impact of a bush fire.

Be aware that when you are travelling to your Neighbourhood Safer Place there may be heavy smoke and poor visibility.

It is important that you are familiar with the area. Gather at the Neighbourhood Safer Place location and remain there until the bush fire threat has passed.

The conditions at the Neighbourhood Safer Place may be uncomfortable and you may be affected by heat, smoke and embers.

Water, toilets and food may not be available at the Neighbourhood Safer Place and emergency service personnel may not be present.

Neighbourhood Safer Places are not intended for pets and livestock.

The Rural Fire Service in consultation with Council have identified the following locations as Neighbourhood Safer Places in the event of a fire.

Title / Type / Location
Langtry Oval / Open Space / Lyne Street, Marrar
Matong Rural Fire Brigade Station / Building / Matong Street, Matong
Ganmain Hall / Building / Ford Street, Ganmain
Coolamon Sport and Recreation Club Car Park / Open Space / Lewis Street, Coolamon
Ardlethan Soldiers Memorial Hall Forecourt / Open Space / Ariah Street, Ardlethan
