Safety Initiative: Driving Under the Influence (DUI)

Traffic accident is always one of the major safety concerns in our community. Other than speeding, adverse driving behaviour and consequences due to the influence of drugs and alcohol are also major causes of accident. Driving under the influence (DUI) may lead to lasting consequences for driver goodself and others, including general publics. Safety programme addressing DUI is essential to eliminate of impaired drivers and thus provide a healthier and safer environment in the community.

This seminar will introduce the concepts of DUI, development of DUI prevention and experience sharing in DUI prevention via enforcement, education, adjudication, rehabilitation and safety initiatives with application of advanced technology. The seminar will also provide an overview of ignition interlock as it relates to driving safety and explore the significant impact ignition interlock have on reducing DUI recidivism, particularly drunk driving.

The seminar is jointly organised by CILTHK, HKARMS, and HKIE-MMNC, and it is sponsored by LSGI –Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Safety-yp.com.

Speaker Profile:

C. Stephen Erni, Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Driving Under the Influence (DUI) Associationo of US, has over 30 years experience in driving safety with the specialties in DUI prevention, education and associated safety programmes. He has been implemented the Association’s extremely successful Safety Programme, including the Safety Bugs and Safety SIMulator. During his tenor, Mr. Erni also successfully negotiated numerous contracts and grants with state agencies, including the Department of Transportation US, county drug and alcohol programmes, and national foundations. He has used his passion for DUI prevention and tireless energy to grow the Association from a small agency of three employees and one state contract, to a thriving organization of 15+ employees that manage the Association’s multiple contracts and expanding prevention programmes.
