Comments/Explanations

Trainer Scott Brunton was fined $100 under LR 13.3 for the late notification of riders in Race 7 today.

RACE 1 – HYGAIN 3YO & UPWARDS MAIDEN PLATE–1000 METRES

Ain’t The Whisky was incorrectly shown in the racebook as not wearing blinkers when in actual fact this filly is a blinkered horse.

On jumping away Ain’tThe Whisky and Gee Gees Supreme came together.

Shortly after this Ain’tThe Whisky and Fiore were inconvenienced when Gee Gees Supreme continued to shift out slightly.

Passing the 800 metres Fiore was inconvenienced when tightened for room by Double Gun (Jamie Bayliss) which shifted in when not quite clear of Fiore. Jamie Bayliss was notified to ensure he is sufficiently clear of other runners when shifting ground.

Passing the 600 metres Double Gun when hanging out had to be restrained to avoid the heels of Miss Mars. Double Gun then raced greenly and proved difficult to ride for the remainder of the race.

Near the 200 metres Cynical Man laid in when under pressure and continued to lay in for the remainder of the event.

Approaching the 100 metres Miss Mars laid in when under pressure.

RACE 2 – DOC SENDER MEMORIAL 3YO & UPWARDS MAIDEN PLATE - 1150 METRES

Correct Change was slow into stride.

Approaching the 200 metres Flying Stevie (Hayley McCarthy) shifted in abruptly after being struck with the whip and made contact with Keep Racing which was taken in off its course. Passing the 200 metres Flying Stevie again shifted in when struck with the whip before being corrected. Hayley McCarthy was notified that she should ensure she has full control of her mounts when in similar circumstances. When assessing the incident and determining to only notify Miss McCarthy, Stewards took into account the horses racing manner during this incident.

Near the 150 metres Ruboni shifted out inconveniencing What A Buzz.

Daniel Ganderton rider of Roser’s Quest explained that the gelding never travelled well at any stage and he could offer not other explanation for the performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.

RACE 3 – R J (SNOW) & N C AYLETT MEMORIAL CLASS 1 HANDICAP- 1350 METRES

The start was delayed 3 minutes when Scouting Around broke through the front of the gates and galloped for some distance. So as not to cause any unnecessary delay Scouting Around was withdrawn by Stewards at 2.25 pm. Prior to the announcement of correct weight, Stewards ordered all monies invested on Scouting Around to be refunded in full. All bets made prior to 2.25 pm were to be paid less forty seven cents in the dollar on the face value of the win ticket and twenty five cents in the dollar on the value of the place ticket. Trainer B Campbell was advised that Scouting Around must complete a satisfactory barrier test before the gelding will be permitted to race again.

On jumping away Anpao and Big Tilly bumped due to both horses shifting.

Big Tilly raced wide throughout.

Between the 350 and 200 metres Porto hung in and proved difficult to ride. The gelding continued to hang in for the remainder of the race.

Approaching the 100 metres Lake Fergus hung in under pressure resulting in Daniel Ganderton rider of the gelding having to pull the whip to his opposite hand in an attempt to straighten the gelding.

Approaching the winning post Arapid Squaw which commenced to shift out under pressure bumped with Porto, which shifted in under pressure.

Talia Rodder rider of Geegees Firstword which performed poorly explained that the gelding made respiratory noises throughout and also hung out. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.

RACE 4 – JOE MASON MEMORIAL CLASS 2 HANDICAP- 1150 METRES

On jumping away Sariana’s Quest and A Little Bit Dutch bumped heavily resulting in Sariana’s Quest becoming unbalanced.

Savoire Step jumped inwards inconveniencing Just Mouse which was taken in onto Triple Bee which was tightened between that mare and All Cheer.

Poucher raced wide throughout and then commenced to give ground from the 500 metres.

RACE 5 – ALAN HARDSTAFF MEMORIAL BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP- 1150 METRES

Guru Rez was fractious and unruly in the mounting yard prior to the race. Connections were advised that a warning has been placed on the gelding’s manners.

After being loaded into the barriers Chips became fractious and hit its head on the barrier stalls. Chips was subsequently declared a late scratching at 3.48 pm on veterinary advice. Bernaurd proved difficult to load and lashed out behind and then after being loaded, became fractious and reared over resulting in the gelding being cast in the barrier. Bernaurd was also declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 3.49 pm. Incat was reluctant to load and continued to delay the start of the race. As a result of these incidents the start of this race was delayed by approximately 5 minutes. Prior to the announcement of correct weight, Stewards ordered all monies invested on Chips and Bernaurd to be refunded in full. All bets made prior to 3.48 pm were to be paid less twenty eight cents in the dollar on the face value of the win ticket and twenty six cents in the dollar on the value of the place ticket. All bets made between 3.48 pm and 3.49 pm were to be paid less 19 cents in the dollar on the face value of the win ticket and sixteen cents in the dollar on the value of the place ticket. All bets made after 3.49 pm were to be paid at face value. The connections of Chips were advised that a warning has been placed on the gelding’s barrier manners and it was noted that Chips returned with blood in its mouth. A veterinary certificate must also be submitted for Chips prior to it racing again. In light of the recent history of both Bernaurd and Incat, connections of both horses were notified that they must trial to the satisfaction of Stewards before racing again. A veterinary certificate for Bernaurd must also be submitted prior to it racing again.

Shortly after the start Gotta Have Faith was inconvenienced when tightened for room between Chimed Inn and Wills Hope which was taken out by Aventador which jumped outwards.

In the early stages Wills Hope raced wide.

Over the last 150 metres Espry laid in under pressure.

Over the last 100 metres Incat was unable to obtain a clear run and approaching the winning post was tightened for room between Espry and Our Casanova.

Sherry Barr rider of Ash For Cash which performed below expectations explained that something felt amiss with the gelding’s action. Subsequent to the race connections advised the gelding may have failed to handle the track surface.

RACE 6 – R J SKIRVING MEMORIAL BENCHMARK 72 HANDICAP–1350 METRES

At The Weekend was examined by the veterinary surgeon behind the barriers and deemed fit to race.

Moonless was slow into stride.

Shortly after the start Roussos Destiny was inconvenienced when tightened for room between At The Weekend and Sandeep due to both horses shifting.

Approaching the 200 metres Huss Style was disappointed for a run between Roussos Destiny and Sandeep which shifted in.

Shortly after this Huss Style was unable to obtain a clear run and shifted to the outside of Smoke ‘N’ Whisky to improve.

Hayley McCarthy, Georgie Catania, Talia Rodder, Bulent Muhcu and Anthony Darmanin were all reminded of their obligations when pulling up to turn around and return to the mounting yard in a clockwise direction.

A post-race veterinary examination of Saturn Shimmy revealed no obvious abnormalities.

Subsequent to the meeting the connections of Roussos Destiny which performed poorly reported that the gelding had pulled up well and that they will continue with its preparation.

RACE 7 – WAGYU PIE COMPANY & BAKEHOUSE SHEFFIELD CUP– 1650 METRES

Acting on a confirmed phone call from trainer Shirley Berger that Red Eagle was showing signs of colic Stewards ordered its withdrawal at 11.33 am.

Hayley McCarthy was granted permission to ride Vigilante ½ kilo over the allotted weight (54kg).

Correct weight was delayed when Georgie Catania rider of Second Dozen requested to view the official photo. After doing so she was satisfied and correct weight was declared.

Acting on a report from the Starter that Lander Dollar was fractious in the barriers, connections were advised that a warning has been placed on the gelding’s barrier manners.

Ollie’s Gold knuckled on jumping away.

Passing the winning post on the first occasion Gea Force was tightened for room between Shipspotting which initially shifted in and Streetwise Savoire which shifted out slightly.

Near the 1300 metres Genuine Lad when over racing improved up onto the heels of Second Dozen and was checked. Streetwise Savoire which was following and over racing improved to the inside of Genuine Lad (A Darmanin) who then shifted in when attempting to regain its position trailing Second Dozen. Streetwise Savoire then clipped the heels of Genuine Lad. Anthony Darmanin was notified to exercise far greater care in similar circumstances. When assessing this incident Stewards took into account that Streetwise Savoir improved quickly to the inside of Genuine Lad when over racing.

Second Dozen raced wide in the middle stages.

Sherry Barr rider of Lander Dollar was reprimanded under AR 137A(4)(a) for the use of the whip forward of the shoulder on one occasion.

Over the last 100 metres Streetwise Savoirelaid when under pressure and proved difficult to ride out.

Sherry Barr and Chantal Willis were reminded of their obligations when pulling up to turn around and return to the mounting yard in a clockwise direction.

Georgie Catania was fined $50 under AR 175(p) in that she failed to follow a direction of Stewards by pulling her horse up and returning to the mounting yard in a clockwise direction.

Talia Rodder rider of Shipspotting which performed below expectations explained that the mare failed to respond to her riding from the 600 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be sore across the back. Connections were advised that a veterinary certificate must be submitted prior to Shipspotting racing again.

RACE 8 – SIMONS DESIGN CENTRE BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP – 1880 METRES

All Wrapped Up jumped away awkwardly.

Jamie Bayliss rider of Dollar Dan pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR137A(5)(a)(ii), the particulars being that he used his whip on 10 occasions in a forehand manner prior to the 100 metres which is 5 more than permitted under the rule. After considering submissions on penalty and taking into account Jockey Bayliss’ recent record in relation to this rule, he was suspended for one (1) Tasmanian race meeting to commence at midnight 31 December 2014 and expiring at midnight 1 January 2015. In arriving at penalty Stewards took into consideration Jamie Bayliss’ recent poor record in relation to this rule.

A post-race veterinary examination of Mister Baldock revealed no obvious abnormalities.

GENERAL

Daniel Ganderton was found guilty of a charge under AR 83(a) misconduct in that comments directed towards the Stewards panel at the Tasmanian Turf Club meeting on 19 November 2014 were, in the view of the Stewards, in appropriate. Daniel Ganderton was fined the sum of $250 with $150 suspended for a period of 12 months in that he does not offend under a misconduct charge during that time.
