Eligibility, Review Criteria and Application

The RAAA Scholarship has been established to foster further education in any area of the fine arts to include music, drama, literary, dance, media and/or any visual arts. Annual scholarships will be awarded to a student in any of the listed school districts who is pursuing post secondary education in the fine arts through a college, university, trade school, tech school or any other accredited non-profit institution or program.

The amount of the scholarship for 2012 is $500.00

Eligibility Requirements:

1.  The student must have or will graduate from any of the listed Roseau County schools.

2.  The student must indicate his/her intention to pursue post secondary education in some area of the fine arts.

3.  Financial need may be considered in awarding the scholarship but it is not an eligibility requirement.

Application Process:

1.  A Brief completed application form available from the high school counselor.

2.  A record of grades and attendance for grades 9-12. A school transcript is acceptable.

3.  Applicant will provide a short statement (100 words) about fine arts activities involved in during the last four years and how this has enriched and will continue to enrich the student’s life.

4.  A letter of recommendation from someone other than a family member which points out the personal attributes that the candidate has that would make him/her a good scholarship recipient.

Review Criteria:

1.  Demonstration of fitness and readiness for post secondary education and a likelihood of succeeding.

2.  Demonstration of a commitment to the fine arts.

3.  Financial need will not necessarily be a predominant factor.

Selection and Award:

1.  Announcement shall be made at the awards program at the recipient’s school and by letter from the selection committee.

2.  The recipient must give written permission to publicize the award to the local media.

3.  The award check will be issued to the student after RAAA has been presented a transcript of the first semester/quarter grades and a tuition bill or class schedule for second semester.

4.  In January of the recipient’s second semester/quarter, the student should send the claim to RAAA Treasurer, Box 135, Roseau, MN, 56751.

5.  If a scholarship recipient changes or transfers to another educational institution, he or she is asked to notify RAAA immediately.

6.  If the student does not qualify for the scholarship, it may be awarded to the runner-up if he/she qualifies.

7.  Previous graduates who are already in college may apply; however, current seniors will receive first consideration.

8.  Roseau Area Arts Association requests that the recipient(s) be available to participate in Art in the Park which is held during the month of July.
