Athlone Triathlon Club Membership
Athlone Triathlon Club?
Athlone Triathlon Club is passionate about getting more people running, cycling and swimming. As a member, you’ll meet like-minded people enjoying an active lifestyle. Athlone Triathlon Club is proud of creating a vibrant club spirit where people can have fun training, racing and socialising. The club is the ideal place to start your athletic career, learn new skills and forge lasting friendships.
Who should join the club?
The club is for men and women members of all abilities over the age of 16. At present ATC cannot take on members under the age of 16. There are training options that suit recreational athletes through to elite performers. Athlone Triathlon Club (ATC) encourages all newcomers to come along to our organized club training sessions and see how you get on. Triathlons are not for everyone but we in ATC feel that with the help of our structured training sessions and encouragement from existing club members, your experience will be far easier and more enjoyable.
Club membership?
Should you decide to continue to train with ATC, for insurance reasons you must join Triathlon Ireland (TI). With this in mind, we have decided to combine both memberships in a simple online procedure. Annual membership for ATC is €25 and is paid online on the Triathlon Ireland website.
Please follow the step by step procedure on the ATC website to become a member of Triathlon Ireland and ATC.

All the training in the world doesn’t compare to actual racing, so we have planned a busy season of races. Following is a calendar of events the club are busy organising for the coming year. Also included are some key local races that the club support and compete in.
2012 Planned Calendar of Events
The committee have put a lot of thought into how we can train and bring on new members. Best way to build up is slowly over time and races are a great benchmark to see how your training is going. So we have planned out a series of races that build on each other with target distances that should be achievable for all levels of members. We start of the season early with a 5K run in March followed by a Duathlon in April, Indoor Super Sprint distance in May then the Aquathons in June. This represents a great way of building up your fitness levels.
Events in red are organised by Athlone Triathlon Club and open to all members
Events in black are locally organised races open to everybody
MARCH
Date - Saturday 25th Event – Athlone Tri Club 5K Run Location – Coosan
An easy target for new members to aim for, or a great way for current members to ease back into training after winter hibernation!
Later that night we plan to have ATC’s first social event of the year – a BBQ. Keep an eye on the website for more details
APRIL
Date – TBD Event – Athlone Tri Club Duathlon Location – Coosan
Temperatures in Lough Ree will still be a bit cold so we plan to run a duathlon which will be open to all club members. The distances are - 3.5K Run, 20K Bike – 3.5K Run.
MAY
Date – TBD Event – Athlone Tri Club Indoor Triathlon Location - ARSC
We are in discussions with Athlone Regional Sports Centre to finalize a date to run an indoor triathlon. It will be a Super Sprint distance Triathlon – that is 500M swim, 15K bike and 3.5K run. For those only learning to swim, this will be a great confidence builder to know you are well on the way to being able swim the distance.
JUNE
Date – Tuesday 5th Event – Coosan Charity Swim Location – Coosan Point
Chairty swim in Coosan Point organized by ARSC. For many this is the first open water swim of the year. Great for beginners to get some experience of open water swimming. There’s a distance to suit everone – 200M, 750M, 1500M and for the budding Ironmen among you last year they had a 3000M swim.
Date – Wednesday 6th Event – Midland Tri Club Aquathon Series 1 Location – Lilliput
First of the interclub Aquathon series between Midland Tri Club, Lanesboro Tri Club and Athlone Tri Club. Midland Tri Club will host the first Aquathon in Lilliput and the distance will be 750M swim followed by a 5K run. Aquathons are an invaluable way for beginners to build confidence for open water swimming.
Date – Saturday 9th Event – Athlone Tri Club Lough Ree Monster Tri Location – Portrunny
With a firm focus on helping beginners, the committee this year decided to hold the club race before Triathlone. The main reason for this is to give beginners and less confident swimmers as many open water swimming events as possible before Triathlone. This is a sprint distance race – 750M swim, 20K bike and 5K run so if you’re nervous about swimming in the Shannon for Triathlone, this race is for you. So sign up, no excuses!
Date – Wednesday 13th Event – Midland Tri Club Aquathon Series 2 Location – Lilliput
Back to Lilliput for week 2 of the interclub Aquathon series between Midland Tri Club, Lanesboro Tri Club and Athlone Tri Club. 750M swim followed by a 5K run.
Date – Wednesday 20th Event – Midland Tri Club Aquathon Series 3 Location – Lilliput
Week 3 of the interclub Aquathon series in Lilliput
Date – Wednesday 27th Event – Lanesboro Tri Club Aquathon Location – Lanesboro
We move to Lanesboro for week 4 of the interclub Aquathon series
Date – Saturday 30th Event – Location – Athlone!!!
No description necessary. For most people this is the big race of the year J.
ATC is not affiliated with TriAthlone and we have no part in organizing the race but it’s included here as its most peoples main event. Good luck!
JULY
Date – Wednesday 4th Event – Athlone Tri Club Aquathon Location – Coosan Point
Final week of the interclub Aquathon series. Awards presentation afterwards in Lough Ree Inn. Which club will claim bragging rights this year???
Date – Saturday 14th Event – Two Provinces Tri Location – Lanesboro
Support our neighbours and friends from Lanseboro Tri Club event
AUGUST
Date – Saturday 11h Event – CK Memorial Triathlon Location – Mullingar
Support our neighbours and friends from Midland Tri Club event
Date – Saturday 25th Event – Worlds End Triathlon Location-Castleconnell, Limerick
No ATC are not organising this race but the committee decided this year to have a “Club Race Weekend Away”. So we’re organizing a road trip heading to Castleconnell in Limerick to compete in the Worlds End Triathlon then stay over in Limerick and let our hair down - Dave Seery might have a problem doing that! But we’re sure he’ll make up for it by having plenty of ‘prizes’ to ‘award’ individuals on the night. It would be great for as many club members as possible to be involved in this.
SEPTEMBER
Date – TBD Event – End of season party Location – TBD
Time to hang up the tri-suit for another year and hopefully celebrate a great season of racing. Last year we had a fancy dress party but I still cannot look Emmett Kelly in the eye after seeing him in his costume. So we reckon we’ll have to come up with a different theme this year but you never know. As always keep an eye on the website for more on that. Plenty of training to do first!
