Basic Function
Provide governancefor the WCADVSA and establish policies that will affect the work of the WCADVSA while holding the Board of Directors accountable for the outcome of such decisions.
Position Responsibilities
Determine the WCADVSA's mission and purpose.
- The WCADVSA Board of Directors will review the statement of mission and purpose that articulates the WCADVSA’s goals, means, and primary constituents served.
Select the WCADVSA Executive Director.
- The Board determines the WCADVSA Executive Director’s responsibilities. When the Executive Director position is vacant, the WCADVSA Board of Directors willundertake a careful search to find the most qualified individual for the position.
Provide proper financial oversight.
- Assist in developing the WCADVSA annual budget and ensuring that proper financial controls are in place.
Ensure adequate resources for the WCADVSA.
- One of the WCADVSA Board of Directors foremost responsibilities is to provide adequate resources for the organization to fulfill its mission.
Ensure legal and ethical integrity and maintain accountability.
- The WCADVSA Board of Directors is ultimately responsible for ensuring adherence to legal standards and ethical norms of the WCADVSA.
Ensure effective WCADVSA organizational planning.
- The WCADVSA Board of Directors will actively participate in an overall planning process and assist in implementing and monitoring the plan's goals. WCADVSA Board of Director members will chair or participate in standing committee(s) as appropriate.
Recruit and orient new board members and assess board performance.
- The WCADVSA Board of Directors will articulate prerequisites for candidates, orient new members, and periodically and comprehensively evaluate its own performance.
Enhance the WCADVSA’s public standing.
- The WCADVSA Board of Directors will clearly articulate the organization's mission, accomplishments, and goals to the public and garner support from the community.
Determine, monitor, and strengthen the WCADVSA’s programs and services.
- The WCADVSA Board of Directors will determine which programs are consistent with the organization's mission and monitor their effectiveness.
Support and assess the performance of the WCADVSA Executive Director.
- The WCADVSA Board of Directors will ensure that the Executive Director has the professional support she needs to further the goals of the organization.
Attend WCADVSA Board of Director meetings and pursue on-going training concerning Board responsibilities, domestic violence and sexual assault.
- Board members must have an understanding of domestic violence and sexual assault, which includes confidentiality.
Participate in policy-making decisions and reinforce procedure with appropriate modeling behavior and uphold all current policies and procedures of the WCADVSA.
