2015 GRAEAGLE MEADOWS

CROSS COUNTRY TOURNAMENT

“The Kinkley Klassic” - Wednesday, Oct. 21st

COURSE GUIDE & DESCRIPTION OF EACH HOLE

**********************************************************************

10:30 AM MANDATRORY MEETING & 11:00 AM SHOTGUN START.

(Limited to first 56 male + 20 female entries received; guests are welcome.)

RULES OF PLAY

1.   SAFETY - Be very aware of the location of other golfers on the course before hitting. The course actually crosses over itself in several locations. This requires special awareness of where other golfers are on the course. These locations are noted as CROSSOVER HOLES in the COURSE GUIDE below.

2.   COURSE MARKINGS - Tee markers for each hole will be ORANGE signs staked at appropriate spots on the course. Thus, we will be playing the “Orange Course”. The instructions below will tell you how to find the next tee marker.

3.   GOLF CARTS - Carts must be kept at least 20 yards from all greens. Drive and park on established cart paths and access roads wherever possible. All players must ride carts.

4.   FORMAT - Four-person Scramble using each player’s drive at least twice in the round. Each player receives 10% of his regular course handicap. Handicaps combined for team handicap. Teams selected by computer. ORANGE TEES – WINTER RULES - (Since this is a scramble, you may lift, clean & place within 6” of the selected shot.)

5.   DISTANCES - Yardages shown are to the center of the green and have been measured by optical rangefinder. Use your course knowledge, creativity and imagination to navigate the “Orange Course”. Also, if you are approaching a green from opposite the normal direction, a red flag will mean the hole is back and white flag will mean a front pin. (Special thanks to Jim Adams, Mark Machin & Bob Macomber for their invaluable help in measuring the entire course.)

COURSE GUIDE

The ORANGE COURSE at Graeagle Meadows – 6,110 yards / par 73

(Note: When the # symbol appears below, it refers to a location on the regular course. This will make navigating the “Orange” course simple.)

1st Hole : Locate the orange “TEE 1” sign at the #1 white tee. From here your shot is a 172 yard carry over water to the #2 green. A very pretty par 3 to start the round.

2nd Hole : Go to the #3 red tee area and find the orange “TEE 2” marker. Play to the #1 green by either driving to the #1 fairway (a 322 yard dogleg par 4) or go straight at the #1 green and risk soggy balls in the pond. (hint: The pond is 239 yards away.)

3rd Hole : CROSSOVER HOLE. Drive your cart from the #1 green along the river and back to the #3 tee area. The orange “TEE 3” marker is at the #3 blue tee. From here you have an uphill 457 yard par 5 to the #5 green. Your tee shot will be aimed across the river toward the bunker in the #6 fairway, but before hitting make sure no one is on the bridge. Watch for golfers in the #5 fairway.

4th Hole : CROSSOVER HOLE. Proceed next to the #6 blue tee box. From this lofty perch you are playing a 545 yard par 5 to #4 green. Before teeing off, be certain the #5 fairway is clear of other players. As you approach your drive, look toward the #5 tee box where the team ahead of you may be hitting directly at you. The green is largely invisible on your approach and slopes steeply to the left.

5th Hole : CROSSOVER HOLE. Walk over the bridge to #5 white tee and prepare to launch a long drive down the #5 fairway right of the bunker. The group behind you will be coming straight at you; so exercise caution before teeing off toward them. If necessary, send someone out to communicate how best to proceed. When you reach your drive, you will have a beautiful view down toward #6 green. Your second shot will probably be in excess of 200 yards on this challenging 448 yard par 4. (hint: The hardpan can be your friend – maybe.)

6th Hole : Go to the #4 red tee area to locate orange “TEE 6”. Here you have a 105 yard par 3 to the #3 green. Your choice - fly it high or punch it in low.

7th Hole : CROSSOVER HOLE. Before driving over the bridge, make sure the #3 blue tee area is clear so it is safe to cross the river. Proceed to the #7 red tee and shoot straight up the #7 fairway; or boom a drive right onto the driving range. Either way this 486 yard par 5 will take you to the #10 green. (hint: If you hit your drive straight at the #10 green, it must carry 238 yards to reach the driving range.)

8th Hole : After putting-out on #10 green, motor around the #8 tee, past the #9 tee and go left to the west end of #14 blue tee area for the orange “TEE 8” marker. The task at hand is a 183 yard par 3 to #8 green. A towering tee shot across the broad expanse of tall grass to a green which slopes away from you may offer a birdie opportunity. Beware of golfers on the #9 tee before hitting.

9th Hole : The “TEE 9” sign is on the #9 tee from which you are aiming to the #14 green. This 271 yard par 4 may be drivable for some. Even if you can’t drive the ball that far, you still might get close by shrewdly employing a bouncing shot up the cart path!

10th Hole : From #14 green drive your cart to the #18 fairway 70 yards east of the fairway bunker. Near the gravel service road, the orange “TEE 10” sign sits 402 yards from #18 green. To get there hit a tee shot of 190 to 250 yards over the trap toward the far 150 yard tree. This dog-leg right par 4 will require a long and accurate tee shot.

11th Hole : CROSSOVER HOLE. Cart back to the #15 blue tee to find the orange

“TEE 11” marker. Your mission on this 393 yard par 4 is the #13 green. Choose either the usual drive down the #15 fairway, or go left into the #14 fairway to set-up your approach. BEWARE, the group in front of you will be teeing off from the #14 tee ACROSS YOUR LINE OF PLAY to their next hole on #17. When you reach your selected drive, check the group in front of you. If they are on the #14 white tee, wait for them to hit and vacate the tee before you play your approach to #13 green. --- If you are unclear about what should happen here, drive up to the group ahead and coordinate with them - SAFETY FIRST !

12th Hole : At the front of the #14 white tee box you’ll see the “TEE 12” orange sign.

Before you beckons a 212 yard par 3 to the #17 green. What a beautiful & challenging hole! CROSSOVER HOLE. Refer back to the procedure for playing the 11th hole to make certain no one gets whacked while playing this hole. USE CAUTION. Park carts on the gravel access road between #15 and #17.

13th Hole: Below the green on #17 you will find the “TEE 13” marker. This hole is truly ‘target golf’. Your tee shot must be no shorter than 194 yards, nor longer than 224 yards. Miss this landing area down the #17 fairway and you will not have a second shot to #16 green. Land your tee shot at the orange target in the center of the fairway; then loft a shot of 74 yards to the center of #16 green. Even in a 4-Man Scramble, bogeys will be taken on this 283 yard par 4. Good luck.

14th Hole : Leaving #16 green, drive toward the #16 tee box. Before you get there you’ll see the orange “TEE 14” marker to your right along the gravel service road. Here you have a blind shot to #15 green through a narrow opening in the forest canopy. Aim left of the flag and fly the ball 127 yards to set up your birdie putt on this short par 3.

15th Hole : Leaving #15 green, cart to the east end of #14 blue tee box. Here is “TEE 15”. Hit your drive ‘backwards’ up the #13 fairway toward the #13 tee area. If your second shot is resting on the tee box, move it to the side no closer to the hole. Now your shot to the #12 green is clear, but it will feel odd coming from this direction on a 475 yard par 5.

16th Hole : Below the #12 green, near the large willow bushes, is the “TEE 16” orange marker. Aim at #11 green and remember the green will be sloping steeply away from you toward the creek. At 141 yards, this 3 par may play longer if the wind is blowing at you. Most of the green is invisible from the tee, so eye the pin and trust your swing.

17th Hole : Go next to the NEW #12 BLUE TEE BOX to find the marker for “TEE 17”. No doubt here, there is only one way to go. You are about to play #11 fairway ‘backwards’ up the hill; and the target of your efforts is the #7 green 616 yards away. Should your third shot come to rest on the #11 tee box, kindly move it to the side no closer to the hole. A straight but testing par 6.

18th Hole : Make your way cautiously to the #8 tee box, watching for the group behind you coming up #11 fairway. At the #8 red tee you will discover the final orange tee marker, “TEE 18”. Grip your driver and rip one over the water, right of the #8 green, landing it softly in the #9 fairway. From there your next two shots will lead to the smallest green at Graeagle Meadows, #9. After putting-out, it’s just a few strides to the clubhouse for lunch and a well-earned beverage at the end of this 472 yd. par 5.
