JUNE 12,2015FIELD DAYSTATIONS AND VOLUNTEER JOBS

All events can be managed by one adult or teenager, unless specified otherwise. Challenger has all the supplies and equipment, unless specified otherwise. Grades 3-5 will be 9:30 to 11:00. Grades K-2 will be 12:45 to 2:15.

EVENTS

  1. WATER CUP RELAY. 3teams race to fill 3 buckets to fill line. Person at start of the line fills a cup and runs to 5 gallon bucket, empties it and runs back with cup; passes cup to next person, etc. 3 large tubs, 3 buckets w/fill line, 10 or 12 ounce plastic cups.
  1. BUCKET PASS RELAY.3teams race to fill a bucket of water to line. Jars have holes in bottom. Kids fill jars and run to bucket, dump water, return with empty jar, pass to next person. 3 large tubs, 3 buckets w/fill line, 3jars w/holes.
  1. WET SPONGE RELAY. 3teams race to fill a bucket of water to line. Kids dunk sponge, run to bucket and squeeze, return with sponge, pass to next person..3 large tubs, 3 buckets w/fill line, 4 sponges.
  1. TUG ‘O WAR. Two teams. Flag is tied to the mid-point of rope. Rope is positioned so that flag is above paint mark on the grass. Object is for one team to pull the flag past another paint mark. Rope, whistle, marks on grass.Needs 2 volunteers.
  1. 3-LEGGED RACE. Kids, in pairs, stand side-by-side with two legs tied together. They race to a finish line. Ties or elastic
  1. SACK HOP RACE. Kids hop to a finish line using sacks. Sacks.
  1. SHOE KICK. Kids loosen a shoe and kick it from starting line as far as they can. Measure distance. Start and finish lines.
  1. BASE RUN. Kids are timed running the bases. Stop watches.
  1. PEARL DIVE. Small pool with marbles. Kids sit on stools or overturned buckets and try to pick up marbles with toes. They have to drop the marbles into a cup. NO HANDS!! Lots of marbles, 3 plastic baby pools, buckets to sit on, cups to drop marbles in.Needs 2 volunteers.
  1. SNOW SHOE MARCH. 3 or 4 kids stand on 2 x 4’s holding ropes and try to walk. 2x4 wood boards with ropes, buddy walkers.
  1. BEACH VOLLEYBALL Nets are set up on the grass. Teams of 2 or 3 play against one another with a beach ball. Nets and beach balls. Needs 2 volunteers.
  1. HOCKEY/FRISBEE GOLF. Flags mark the course – 6 to 9 holes. Kids strike a nerf ball with a foam hockey stick. Flags or cones with sticks and numbered signs, hockey sticks, nerfballs.
  1. WATER BALLOON TOSS. Each pair of kids has a water balloon. Kids stand opposite each other, and with each toss must take a step backward. Nozzle for filling balloons from a hose, lots of water balloons. Needs 2 volunteers.
  1. BACK ALLEY PLAYGROUND Hoops, jump ropes, Chinese jump ropes, jacks
  1. CHALK ART. Kids will draw on pavement with colored chalk.Each will have a square outline to draw in.chalk.
  1. TARP FLIP. Partners or groups of 3 stand on tarp and turn it over without stepping off it. Timer to see how quickly you can do it. Tarp, stopwatch
  1. LONG JUMP. Short run-up, take off on mark, and land in wood chips. Jumps will be measured with tape. Measuring tape, cones, safety mats
  1. REST STATION. Water and cups
  1. ICE CUBE MELTDOWN. Stand on tarp, receive an ice cube. Who can make their ice cube melt fastest? Tarp, ice cubes.
  1. NINJA WATERMELON. Fling cards into watermelon target. 2-3 watermelons cut in half, several decks of cards, table to mount watermelon.
  1. FOOTBALL TARGET PASS. 3 attempts to pass a football through a hoop. Several footballs, 2 stakes with hoop taped between them. Starting line painted
  1. PING PONG TORTURE. Roll ping pong balls down a tape measure into a cup and other insanely difficult tasks. Several 25’ tape measures, ping pong balls or golf balls, cups or jars for targets, scoops & cones
  1. GIANT HORSESHOES. Fling hula hoops over a tall stake. Hula hoops, stakes
  1. KNOCK HOCKEY. 2 or 3 tables, 2 x 4’s, pucks, sticks
  1. GIANT MAZE. Field paint.

OTHER JOBS

  • Water balloon fillers. 6-8 (the more the better)
  • Supplies scroungers (300water balloons, water cups for rest station, 3 large (25’) tape measures, 2 heavy tarps, ice cubes for station 19, extra water hoses, popsicles for all kids
  • Thursday afternoon equipment preparation.
  • Friday afternoon cleanup.
