Digital Mammography Now Offered in a Spa-Like Setting

Charlotte Radiology’s Monroe Breast Center Expands Services in a New Location

Diagnostic mammography moves from CMC-Union to Charlotte Radiology’s

new outpatient facility

October DAY, 2008 (MONROE, N.C.)– Charlotte Radiology’s Monroe Breast Center is relocating to the new CMC-Union Medical Plaza on Tuesday, Nov. 18, and will offer screening mammography and follow-up comprehensive care in one convenient location.

“Charlotte Radiology is excited to take over diagnostic mammography services, previously offered at CMC-Union,” said Robyn Stacy-Humphries, M.D., physician with Charlotte Radiology. “This will enable us to offer the highest quality mammography services to our community in a comfortable, outpatient setting.”

The new breast center occupies a 3,700 square-feet space and has large, private dressing rooms with televisions; a spa-like room with a massage chair and aromatherapy; and refreshments available all in an effort to focus on patient comfort. Services provided include digital screening and diagnostic mammography, ultrasound and biopsy to detect and diagnose breast cancer, in addition to bone density testing (DEXA) for osteoporosis.

Charlotte Radiology has had digital screening mammography available since August of 2006. With the breast program merger, we will now be able to offer digital technology for diagnostic mammography as well. Digital mammography is more accurate for women with dense breast tissue, and much like a digital photo, images can be enhanced, manipulated and improved, providing better information for diagnosis.

The American Cancer Society recommends annual mammography starting at age 40. “Early detection is key in the fight against breast cancer, and our goal is to help patients find out where they stand quickly, comfortably and accurately,” said Amy Sobel, M.D.

“Charlotte Radiology has worked closely with CMC-Union administrators and physicians to ensure a smooth transition to the new location. “We are grateful to work with CMC-Union to provide our new location and advanced breast imaging services to the residents of Union County,” said Mark Farmer, director of outpatient services for Charlotte Radiology.

Mammography readings will be done by board-certified Charlotte Radiology physicians who specialize in breast imaging/mammography and will be staffed by mammography certified technologists.
