Kilkhampton Village Fete

Saturday 19th July 2pm

Kilkhampton, 5 miles north of Bude, on the A39.

This year the annual fete will be bigger than ever so make a date on your calendar! We have a selection of stalls inside the marquee and market stalls selling unique recycled items from the Restored White Elephant Company, hand crafted cards, cross stitch pictures, items from the Cornish Jewelry Collection, local crafts sold in aid of Langore Village Hall, shabby chic and retro gifts from Marbles Gifts, canvas work, landscape/animal and quirky work by a leading local photographer, Lizzie Watling Recipes homemade chilli jams and sauces, Avon bargain boxes, Pampered Chef Gifts and cards, stuffed animals and handmade soft toys, sweets, books, mosaic work, plant sales and so much more. An ideal place to pick up your early Christmas gifts!

The Youth Club, PTFA, Pre School, Football Club and Friendship Group will also be holding activities on the field and you will have a chance to venture inside the unusual Bottle Bus Museum as it parks up for the day and allows a peek inside at a fascinating collection from around the world.

The little Big Wheel, Fairground rides, side stalls, Skittles, Face painting and Bouncy Castle will also be there for children of all ages.

Programs can be pre-purchased from Gilbert & Vanstone or the village Post Office from early July for £1 which includes a What s on during the day, site map and acts as a lucky raffle draw number, the raffle to be drawn at 4.30pm on the field.

Be part of the under 12’s Children’s Fancy Dress competition and join the procession through the village. Meet at Bartletts Yard behind the MOT centre, by 1.45pm, age categories under 7 & 8-12 prizes for all. Judging takes place on the field with £5, £3 and £2 prizes and sweets for all entrants.

The day starts with the crowning of this years Queen Anna Harvey at the Lych Gate, St James Church at 2pm. This is followed by a procession of Royalty led by Bude Samba Band, through the village, along the A39 to Lamb Park Pavilion and Football grounds, where the official opening takes place at 2.30pm.Reverend Richard and former 1984 Queen Sharon Jones (nee Westlake) will officiate.

The Bar, BBQ, Curry stall, ice cream, candy floss, refreshments including homemade cakes, pasties, and cream teas will be open all day from 2.30pm. Public car parking is limited but available, disabled car parking is available, toilets, St Johns Ambulance/First Aid, and children’s play area/skate park.

There will be a static display of Vintage vehicles, cars, tractors, motorbikes and Honda Goldwings. A Fairground, side stalls, craft marquee, display by the North Devon Display Gymnastics Club, Sheep Racing, children’s sports, and announcement of the Gardening Club, Scarecrow, and Victoria Sponge Cake competition winners plus the program raffle draw. Application forms for the Gardening competition can be obtained by calling 01288 321697. The Victoria Sponge Cake competition is open to under and over 16’s on the day and will be judged by Joanne Hingstone and Rita Vanstone.

At 3.15pm Amy Wishart will be commencing a head shave in order to raise money for Macmillan nurses, in memory of her Grandmother. We wish her well in this venture and hope that everyone gives her support by visiting her web page www.justgiving.com/amy-wishart. Donations for the head shave can also be made on the day. The money raised is going to Macmillan nurses and Amy’s beautiful long hair is being donated to the Little Princess Trust to make wigs for children affected by cancer.

The Scarecrow competition is a village wide event that takes place between 5th and 19th July when the streets are taken over by scarecrows. The entrants will be judged on 11th -12th July. Prize winners will be announced at the fete. All the proceeds will be donated to the Royal British Legion. Trail maps will be available from the village Post Office.

We are very lucky to have live music from Strange Brood, again this year. A very popular Rock, Soul, R & B band performing live with free admission in the marquee from 8pm. Late bar available.
