01 - GAME CHANGER INTRO
Welcome to Campus Life! Great to see everyone here today! We are starting off a new series called Game Changer. At Campus Life, anything could be a game changer, even the littlest thing… Lets see how THIS changes the game today:
BALLOON FOUR CORNER VOLLEYBALL
ITEMS NEEDED:
[ ] Dozen large balloons
[ ] Tape or cones
PREPARATION:
Blow up a dozen large balloons.
Tape or cone off the room into four quadrants.
DIRECTIONS:
- Each class covers a quarter of the room.
- A staff person “monitors” each quadrant.
- Give each class 4 balloons. (You can use more balloons for a larger group)
- Round One
- Each class hits their balloons up into the air.
- They must keep them in the air.
- No one may hit the same balloon twice in a row or that balloon is eliminated.
- If the balloon hits the floor or leaves their quadrant it is eliminated.
- Rank the classes 1st through 4th.
- Round Two
- When the music starts the balloons are hit into the air
and can be tapped toward the other quadrants. - Goal is to not have any hit the floor in your quadrant.
- You may not “spike” the balloon – it must be hit in an upward motion (penalty point).
- When the balloon hits the floor, it is immediately put back in play.
- Staff person counts:
- The number of times a balloon hits the floor & number of times someone spikes a balloon.
- After around five minutes rank the classes 1st through 4th, with the fewest points being the winner.
BALLOON STOMP
ITEMS NEEDED:
[ ] 16 blown-up balloons
[ ] 16 18” pieces of string tied to balloons
DIRECTIONS:
- Round One
- One guy from each class (two from each class works if you have enough space).
- Tie blown-up balloons loosely around their ankles.
- Designate a “ring” they must stay within.
- "When I say go - try and pop each other’s balloons."
- When both balloons are popped they are out.
- If you are able to stop the action when there are two people left, have them join both hands and face off.
- Round Two: Repeat with one girl from each class
Announce the overall winning class/team & any additional YFC announcements.
Kid President Pep Talk
Some key quotes:
- We all need a pep talk
- The world needs to stop being boring!
- Don’t stop believing unless your dream is stupid. Then you should get a better dream.
- This is our time.
- We can make every day better for each other.
- If we’re on the same team, let’s start acting like it.
- You were made to be awesome.
1) What quote stood out to you? Why? (Let this be pretty open.)
2) “We can make every day better for each other.” How? Why don’t we?
3) “If we’re on the same team, let’s start acting like it.” Why don’t we act like it?
4) Kid president said “We all need a pep talk.” I think that’s true sometimes. Share a time someone gave you a “pep talk.”
(Share a personal example of when someone gave you a “pep talk.”)
Bottom line, though, if our dream is stupid, Kid President said we should get a better dream. Watch this:
Think Different - Richard Dreyfuss
Script (Consider printing it and giving it to the students at the end of the wrap up to take home): “Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.” ― Rob Siltanen
That was an awesome tribute to Steve Jobs of Apple. I loved the line, “the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who usually do.” Don’t you stop believing that you can make a difference. You can be a Game Changer! But you will have to “think different.” A verse in the Bible says that! - “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think” (Romans 12:2). “By changing the way you think.”
Campus Life can really help change the game for you, because we always include what God thinks about the topics we talk about, - but you have to be here for that to happen. So there’s your pep talk! You were made to be awesome. You can be a game changer. I hope you’ll make CL a regular part of your week and together we will learn to “think different.”
Next week we dive into our first four week series of the year, called – you guessed it – Game Changers! Four huge truths about YOU! Be there!
Invite the winning class to meet you for ice cream. This building time connects leaders with students from one class, and builds the expectation that leaders actually hang out with students. They will start inviting you out!
