Transportation

Transportation to and from the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel-Halifax Downtown is available by taxi, limousine (pre-booking required), or car rental. At the time this information package was put together the taxi fare is approximately $60 per car from the airport to theHotel.All major car rental agencies are available at the airport. The Hotel does not offer shuttle service.

Tournament Hotel

TheMarriott Hotel-Halifax Downtown Hotel(“Hotel”) is the official tournament hotel. It is located at 5120 SalterStreet, Halifax and it is only 5 minutes walking to the tournament facility and a few minutes more to the heart of downtown Halifax and the Halifax waterfront, famous for its nightlife and excellent restaurants. A new farmer’s market is to the south east of the hotel and a large grocery chain store is minutes from the hotel. Please refer to our map for other amenities, all within walking distance.

The special tournament rate is $139.00 based ona room with two queen beds, single or double occupancy and exclusive of taxes. An additional $20.00 per person.

Check-in time is 3:00 pm. Every effort is made to accommodate guests arriving before the check-in time, however rooms may not be immediately available. Check out time is 12:00 pm.

Rooms have been blocked and reserved until April 16, 2013. Thereafter, all remaining rooms will be released for general sale at prevailing rack rates.

Tournament Venue

All training clinics and tournament competition will held at: SEXTON GYM, Barrington Street, Dalhousie University campus, Halifax, NS.

Direction from the Hotel: Less than a 5 minute walk. From the Hotel, proceed north up the hill along Salter Street, cross Hollis Street, continue up the hill, turn left onto Barrington Street, cross the street at the first street lights and proceed south for a of couple minutes, the Sexton Gym is on the right side of Barrington Street.Please refer to the Site Map in the information package that you will receive upon arrival and registration.

Board of Directors’ Meeting - Friday May17, 2013

The national board of directors’ meeting will be held in the Halifax Endeavour Boardroom in the Hotel 2:00-5:00 pm.

Dan Examination - Friday May17, 2013

The dan examination will be 5:30 to 7:00 pm. Location to be announced. The examination will be administered by Okazaki Sensei, 10th Dan, and Yaguchi Sensei, 9thDan. Registration procedures are as follows:

Two copies of the registration form must be submitted in type by May 1, 2013, with two passport photographs along with the dan examination fee as per the fee schedule. The form must also be signed in the permission section by the Provincial Chief Instructor.Please include a copy of your rank record.

If successful, dan registration fees (which is not included in the testing fee) must be submitted to the National Office within one month by the Provincial Director.

Judges’ Examinations - Friday May17, Saturday May 18

The ISKF International Judge Examination is in two parts – written exam and practical exam. Pre-requisites for these exams are 22 years of age, and a minimum of second dan. The registration form must be completed by the registration deadline.If successful, judge’s registration fees (which is not included in the testing fee) must be submitted to the National Office within one month by the Provincial Director.

The cost: $80.00 (costs includes judges’ clinic on Friday)

Judge’s written exam: Friday, Jan. 17, 2013, Halifax Endeavour Board Room, Hotel from 7:00 – 8:00 pm.

Judge’s practical exam: Saturday from 12:00 – 5:00 pm during the tournament at the Sexton Gym. Examinees must have their own whistle and be in their gi.

Training Clinics – Saturday May18, 2013

Judges’training and Kenshusei judgingclinic: Saturday May18, 9:00 to 10:30 am in theSexton Gym in conjunction with the clinic to be taught by Master Yaguchi 9th Danand Sensei David Jones, 7th Dan. The cost for the clinic:

Instructor Trainees requiring Kenshusei credit: $30.00

All others (except those paying $80 ISKF judges exam fee): $20.00

Black Belts Clinic (all ages): Saturday May18, 9:00 – 10:15 aminthe Sexton Gym.The class will be conducted by Master Okazaki, 10th Dan, assisted by Sensei Tony Tam,7th Dan.The cost for the clinic is $20.00.

Kyu ranksClinic (all ages): Saturday May18, 9:00 – 10:00 am in the King’s College Gym, Dalhousie University Campus, 6350 Coburg Road, Halifax. The class will be conducted by Senseis Larry Loreth and Danny Tam, 7th Dans. The cost for the clinic is $15.00. Please refer to the Site Mapin the information package that you will receive upon arrival and registration. If you require transportation from the Hotel to this Clinic, please indicate this on the Registration form to ensure a ride leaving at 8:30am from the Hotel. The shuttles will return to the Hotel at 10:15 am.

Clinics are mandatory for all those taking Dan or Judges Examinations.

32nd ISKF Canada Championship Tournament

Saturday May 18, 2013

Location: Sexton Gym, Dalhousie University Campus on Barrington Street: 12:00 – 5:00 pm. The judge’s practical examination, eliminations and finals for youth, eliminations and finals for adult brown belt, Dojo Tournament and Senior Kata & Kumite. Fee for individual youth and adult events are $35.00 per contestant. Team events are $55.00 per youth team and $55.00 per adult team.

Dojo Tournament

We are excited to introduce the Dojo Tournament once again. Each ISKF Dojo is permitted to send up to 2 teams consisting of 3 competitors, brown and black belts, between 18 and 45years. The team kata (no eliminations, straight to finals) may be a mix of male and female but kumite will be separated between male and female. We hope that the Dojo competition will allow those who are not competing in the Provincial Teams to experience the excitement and thrill of team competition. Those black belts competing in the Dojo competition may also compete individually in the adult individual competition on Sunday but not on the Provincial Teams.

32nd Championship Tournament

Sunday, May 19, 2013

Location: Sexton Gym, Dalhousie University Campus on Barrington Street. The adult black belt eliminations will take place in the morning as well as some Team Kumite eliminations. The official Opening Ceremony and all adult finals will be held in the afternoon. All competitors & participants (including Saturday competitors) will participate in the march-on ceremony at 1:00 pm.

31st ISKF Canada Annual Meeting-Dinner

Sunday May 19, 2013

Location: Waterfront Warehouse Restaurant, across the street from the Hotel. Reception 6:30-7:00pm. The price is $55 for all seats and includes gratuities and taxes. Cash bar is available. Seating is limited and on a first come basis. Do not wait till arrival to buy a ticket. The Buffet Menu includes salads, steamed mussels, baked haddock, sautéed chicken, vegetarian lasagne, assorted desserts, coffee, tea and non-alcoholic beverage.

Celebration Party - Sunday May19, 2013

There will be a celebration party open to all participants (over the age of 19 years) and friends, in theWaterfront Warehouse Restaurantfollowingthedinner. The fun will begin at 9:30 pm and a cash bar will be available.

The undersigned is aware that there are risks and dangers inherent in participating and receiving instruction at the Event. In consideration of being permitted to participate in the Event, I hereby release and waive any claims against International Shotokan Karate Federation ofNova Scotia, International Shotokan Karate Federation of Canada, Halifax International Shotokan Karate Federation and International Shotokan Karate Federation and any and all clubs, schools, instructors, members, judges, officials, officers, directors and representatives relating thereto (collectively the "Releasees") for any injury or damage which I may suffer as a result of participating and/or receiving instruction at the Event including travel to and from the Event.

I understand and agree that this Release will have the effect of releasing, discharging, waiving and forever relinquishing any and all actions, those causes of action that I may have or have had, whether past, present or future, whether now known or unknown and whether anticipated or unanticipated by me, arising out of my participation at the Event. This Release shall be binding upon me, my heirs, successors, administrators, assigns and legal representatives.

I assume full responsibility for any and all risk of death or personal injury or property damage, which I may suffer while participating in the Event. I expressly acknowledge and assume any and all risk that my participation in the Event may subject me to personal injury to bodily harm.

I confirm that I have no past or present medical condition, injury or other physical or mental restriction which may cause or contribute to personal injury or property damage while participating in the Event and if in case I have such a condition, I agree to forthwith notify the Releasees, as the case may be, and withdraw from the Event.

I further agree by signing this Release, I shall indemnify and hold any of the Releasees harmless from any and all liability or costs, including legal fees, associated with or arising from my participation at the Event.
