Westport Christmas Walking Festival 2009

The Christmas Westport Walking Festival will take from Wednesday 30th December2009 to Sunday3rd January 2010.

Itinerary:-

Thursday December 31st: - Start Time 09.30am

Low level walkDiamond Hill:-From the National Park in Letterfrack a well defined path takes us uphill to the summit. Distance5 miles, Time3 hours, Height gain 440 meters. A one hour visit to Kylemore Abbey before or after the walk is also possible. Please note that an 8 Euro charge applies to enter the house and gardens.

High Level Walk:- Northern Bens: A nice horseshoe walk to start - The hike takes in Knockbrack, Ben Bhreac and Binn Bhan and will take between 4 - 5 hours to complete. Total Height Gain 650 meters.

Friday January 1st - Start Time 11.00am

Low Level Walk:-Burrishoole Loop Walk, Today's walk takes us to the Northern shore of Clew Bay to the foothills of the Nephin mountains. our walk is primarly along old bog roads with good views of the bay, ClareIsland and Croagh Patrick,

Walk Details: Distance 9 miles, Time Approx3 hours, Height Gainminimal.

High Level:-CroaghPatrickMountain - The perfect start to your New Year. We begin from the car park at Murrisk and follow the traditional route to the summit.

Time4 Hours - Height Gain 750 meters.

Saturday January 2nd: - Start time 10.00am

Low Level Walk:- Today's walk is a 7 mile amble along Ireland's only fiord. We begin at the Western end at Rosroe passing the deserted village at Foher on route. Time 3 hours - No height gain but the track may be wet and boggy in places.

High Level Walk:- Ben Creggan and Ben Gorm. Starting at AasleaghFalls this hike offers spectacular views of the Killary ( weather permitting ). Time 4 - 5 hours. Total ascent 800 meters.

As this is winter walking please note that any walker without the proper equipment will not be allowed take part.
