P-CREW Program Summary
(Plumas Conservation, Restoration and Education in Watersheds)
Who?
- High School students and recent graduates (current 10th-12th graders)
- 11 students from Plumas and surrounding counties & 11 from the East
Bay Area for each session (22 students total for the summer)
What?
- Paid summer job for high school students (10-12 grade)
- Use hand tools to perform restoration projects including invasive plant removal, fuel reduction, trail maintenance, wildlife monitoring, and more with Forest Service specialists and staff (wildlife biologists, fire ecologists, hydrologists, wildland firefighters, botanists, etc.)
- Weekend recreation trips: backpacking, hiking, stand-up paddleboarding, swimming, etc. with the entire crew

-Educational lessons and field studies to understand forest ecology, wildfires and weather

Where?
-Plumas and Lassen National Forest located in the Northern Sierra Nevada mountains – Storrie, Rich and Moonlight fire areas – and surrounding areas
When?
-Two 5-week sessions - Session 1: June 12-July 13 and Session 2: July 18-August 18, 2017
(students will be “on” the whole five- week session, they will not go home on weekends)
Why?
- Complete valuable restoration projects in areas impacted by human-caused fire

- Provide students with job experience and a chance to gain valuable work skills

- Assist students in building and writing resumes
- Introduce students to new career ideas
- Blend students from very different backgrounds to work on a common goal

- Learn about the Feather River Watershed; where your drinking water comes from

- Have fun!!!
Details?
- Earn roughly $1,200 at the end of the session depending on hours worked
- Everything (food, transportation, gear, even outdoor clothing) is free (gear and clothing must be returned)
-First Aid & CPR Certification provided

- If selected, you will be contacted for a Skype interview. Crew selection will be made after interviews.
