C-17 CAT II Reference

Requirements

·  Dual Precision Landing System Receivers (PLSR)
P/CP set/monitor different PLSR freq & course
·  Min 1 Radar Altimeter (PF’s must be operational)
·  Dual Independent PFDs (PF uses HUD if available)
·  FD, 2 IRUs, 2 ADCs, ND MAP or Compass, CAT II switch selected
·  ALSF 1 or 2, HIRL or TDZ lighting, Centerline Lighting, Sequenced flashers, App end transmissometer, ILS FAR monitor

Both pilots must be current (AC > 100 hrs)

·  SETUP

o  Select CAT II Switch

o  PF – ND MAP/Compass & PFD

o  PM – ND MAP/Compass & PFD (Opp PLSR selected)

o  WX check

§  Operational - RVR 1200; 100’ HAT; X-wind ≤ 10 kts

§  Training – 200 - ½; X-wind ≤ 15 kts

o  Set Minimums

§  PF – DH RA

§  PM – CAT I mins in BARO, then DH RA

·  FAULTS

o  Above 300’ RA

§  Continue to CAT I mins

§  If corrected prior to 300’, may continue CAT II

o  Below 300’ RA

§  G/A unless field in sight

·  TOLERANCES (AFMAN 11-217v1)

o  DH + 100’

§  ± 5kts, ½ dot GS, ½ dot Loc

o  At DH

§  ± 5kts, ½ dot GS, ½ dot Loc

§  Runway Environment in sight (para 12.1.2.2)

§  Positioned/tracking to stay within lateral confines of runway

§  Stabilized airspeed and altitude

·  PF/PM Duties

o  Crosscheck BARO and RA

o  PM calls out PFD/HUD/WAP messages

o  Runway in sight, PM brings up CFG page

o  PM Callouts

§  “Localizer Active”

§  “Glideslope Active”

§  “100 above” DH

§  “DH” or “Go-Around”

o  PF Callouts

§  “Landing” or “Go-Around”

RA or ADC fault?

Lose inside - outside switch “UP”

Lose outside - inside switch “UP”

·  Flight Directors- PF then PM

·  LNAV – arm LOC

·  VNAV – arm G/S

·  Check airspeed & proximity to LOC and G/S Engage AP & ATS

·  Reset Master Caution

·  Reference Checklist when able
