STORY SUMMARY:

In 1914, Cloid H. Smith, the founding father of JOLLY TIME Pop Corn, and his son, Howard, established the American Pop Corn Company and set up shop in their Sioux City, Iowa, home. From their basement they shelled, cleaned and packaged the first branded popcorn in the U.S.

Today, JOLLY TIME remains a family owned business and has sold nearly three billion pounds of popcorn. The company is run by the fourth generation of Smiths - Carlton and Garrett Smith - first cousins and great-grandsons of Cloid H. Smith. JOLLY TIME Pop Corn, still located in Sioux City, Iowa, employs nearly 180 employees, some of whom are the second and third generations to work for the company. Currently, about 80 farmers grow popcorn for the company on about 20,000 acres, primarily in Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota.

Additional “fun facts” include:

Ø  1925: JOLLY TIME Pop Corn earned the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval on all of its products, and still carries it today – longer than any other food product!

Ø  1956/1957: Arthur Godfrey, on his popular CBS radio show, broadcast nationwide, personally endorsed JOLLY TIME as "the world's best popcorn." Other popular celebrity endorsements included: Bob Hope, Ozzie & Harriet, Danny Kaye, Alan Ladd and radio legend Paul Harvey.

Ø  2003: JOLLY TIME Pop Corn sold its 1 billionth bag of microwave popcorn.

Ø  2014: In honor of the 100thbirthday, JOLLY TIME launched the Kernels of Kindness program, which awards 100 people who do good in their communities $1,000 each to continue their good work.
