RESPONSIVE READING...... PSALM 139:1-6; 13-18

L: O LORD, you have searched me and known me!

All:You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar.

L: You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways.

All: Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O LORD, you know it altogether.

L: For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.

All: I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.

L: My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth.

All: Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.

L: How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! If I would count them, they are more than the sand. I awake, and I am still with you.

L: This is the Word of The Lord for the people of God.

All: THANKS BE TO GOD

SCRIPTURE LESSON...... I SAMUEL 3:1-10;19-21

1Now the boy Samuel was ministering to the LORD in the presence of Eli. And the word of the LORD was rare in those days; there was no frequent vision. 2At that time Eli, whose eyesight had begun to grow dim so that he could not see, was lying down in his own place. 3The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the temple of the LORD, where the ark of God was. 4Then the LORD called Samuel, and he said, “Here I am!” 5and ran to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” But he said, “I did not call; lie down again.” So he went and lay down. 6And the LORD called again, “Samuel!” and Samuel arose and went to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” But he said, “I did not call, my son; lie down again.” 7Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, and the word of the LORD had not yet been revealed to him. 8And the LORD called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” Then Eli perceived that the LORD was calling the boy. 9Therefore Eli said to Samuel, “Go, lie down, and if he calls you, you shall say, ‘Speak, LORD, for your servant hears.’” So Samuel went and lay down in his place.

10And the LORD came and stood, calling as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant hears.”

19And Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him and let none of his words fall to the ground. 20And all Israel from Dan to Beersheba knew that Samuel was established as a prophet of the LORD. 21And the LORD appeared again at Shiloh, for the LORD revealed himself to Samuel at Shiloh by the word of the LORD.
