A Postdoctoral position is available at the Biomaterial Research lab (Inserm U1008, University of Lille, France) to integrate into multidisciplinary projects associated with “Bio-fabrication of Orthopaedics in a New Era” (BONE, Interreg North-West Europe). Ongoing studies are focused on in vivo validation of 3D smart implants. In detail, the best performing smart implants will be assessed in a rabbit bone defect (cranial-maxilofacial region) model and compared to autograft and empty defects. Constructs will be explanted after 1 and 3 months. Tissue formation, functional and mechanical properties will be assessed by multiple advanced experimental approaches using SEM, microCT, histopathology, biomechanic test, etc.

Therefore, we are seeking to appoint a post-doctoral Research Assistant to work with Dr. F. Chai, Dr. A. Depeyre, Dr. N. Blanchemain at Faculty of Medicine of University of Lille, and Prof. Dr. J. Ferri, Prof. Dr. G. Raoul in maxillofacial surgery department of hospital center of Lille . The main duties and responsibilities of a successful applicant will be above-mentioned animal model study including pre-operation preparation, surgical operation, post-operative animal care, animal sacrificing/sampling, and the following characterization.


The post holder will also provide support to the research team, including the keeping meticulous records of experimental results, and collating and analyzing research data to prepare it for presentation, period report for Interreg project and scientific publication.


The successful applicant will have a minimum PhD degree in a relevant area of bone biology and histology, experimental animal practice, and preferably veterinary surgery. Training can be provided in microCT analysis and support will be given for animal studies.


The post is funded by BONE, Interreg North-West Europe for a period of 1 year (potentially extendable up to 2 years) and is available from 1st September 2018. The salary is around 2100 euros net per month.

Essential requirements for the applicants:

‌• Proven and authorized experience of laboratory work in surgical practice in in vivo models (preferably the rabbit)

• Knowledge about cranio maxillo-facial bone regeneration or at least global bone regeneration

‌‌• Ideally a PhD in a relevant area of biological and histological sciences

‌• Familiarity with international standards for laboratory safety

• Excellent management, organizational, written and verbal communication skills in English

‌• Willingness to assist in the training of students, visiting workers or new staff in the laboratory


Desirable requirements:

‌• Experience of bioceramic characterization

• Experience of SEM, MicroCT analysis
